Oprah does not need anyone's blessings to expand her business dealings. Nobody is telling Steve Jobs, Bob Johnson, Bill Gates or any other billionaire to give it a rest. It is her right as a businesswoman to expand her interests in any reasonable manner she sees fit. Give it a rest? Last time I checked, her brand is doing just fine.

Kudos to Oprah for once again daring to infringe on the white male dominated world of network ownership. Empowerment programming is here to stay, dominating non-scripted reality shows (in case you have not been watching them, including those on MTV). Oprah was relevant when she pioneered in talk-show, she is relevant today, and will be relevant with her own OWN. Smart move, Judy.

Sick of Oprah's self-importance and hissy fits. That stunt she pulled at Hermes was an embarrassment. Her Presidential candidate is equally self-important - after one partial and unremarkable term as Senator, Obama thinks he should be Pres. What unmitigated arrogance and vanity these two have ---

"s"

ha ha, that funny.

if tv ratings are useless, then why does the biz live and die by them.

tv ratings are THE single most measure of someone's influence and savvy.

O is for OVER. Oprah blew it.

Deal with it. Clearly you work for Harpo or CAA.

If McGrath moves there no doubt she's getting the dough.

Let's keep in mind that once you reach a certain positions you only fail upwards.

Oprah's heart is in the right place but she's spreading her brand out like it's some one-dollar cigar. But then again, that's just the opinion of this failed writer who covers that other side of the spectrum known as the 'embarrasingly unexposed.'

Instead of letting her brand sparkle like a diamond beckoning everyone, she's following the Stalinist propaganda model of hitting everyone over the head with the big Oprah Hammer. Forget brand dissolution. Let's just call it a cash-grab horror show a la some gut-punch Orwellian script. That's not to say I wouldn't like to make love to her.

MTV is yesterday's fish wrap. By resting on her laurels, Judy let the network become a has been. Just look at the ratings of their silly movie awards last week to see how far MTV has slipped. Its practically a relic that lost its relevancy as the barometer of pop culture a long, long time ago. Oprah, careful what you wish for. Judy is old and busted and you deserve better.

It's naive to think that TV ratings are an indication of Oprah's influence and business savvy.

The woman is a PRODUCER. The "personality" part of her empire is like a hamburger to McDonald's -- integral to the plan, but not nearly as profitable as the sodas.

Oprah is wise to slowly let go of her show and segue into a much bigger media strategy. After all, there's only one of her, and networks (especially if they're tech-savvy) can live forever.

Oprah's not going ANYWHERE.

Oprah is over. Oprah lost her way and believes she is the Messiah.

Her numbers have started to decline but it is only the beginning. She has betrayed her audience numerous times, lost credibility, and broke the cardinal rule of celebrity/influence - don't abuse your influence, i.e. don't decide political elections.

Thankfully, Americans have the good sense to not want celebrities deciding their leaders. Things can change on a dime, no matter who you are.

People are getting Oprah weary.

Hmmm...

Isn't Oprah a tad over-exposed as it is?

Her ratings are slipping, have been for a couple of years, and I'm not sure how a channel that will no doubt end up being all-Oprah-all-the time will sell when she's literally everywhere, everyday.
