Primetime Pilot Panic: 'Old Christine' Gets CBS Full Season Order

cbslogosmaller.JPG

CBS didn't just renew The New Adventures Of Old Christine but just gave the sitcom a full season 22-episode order. This show was on the bubble at CBS, even though ABC was ready to steal it with a full season order. As for me, I watched 1/2 of one episode and that was more than enough...

  3. What great news - I absolutely LOVE this show. It hasn’t been on in a while. Going through major withdrawal here.

  4. The Old Christine showrunner needs to wise up and make Jason Alexander a series regular. That will keep them off the bubble next Spring.

  5. A gift to the crew, yes, but not a gift to the gods of quality television. Julia and Clark are so, so, SO much better than this hackneyed show.

And for a 22 episode pickup to. Its got a very loyal fanbase

  7. Maybe you should watch an entire episode and you’ll see why it’s one of the funniest shows on TV.

  8. it’s the best sitcom on the air — I hear that ABC was ready to give it a 22 episode order so that forced CBS to step up and do the same. I think it would have been a HUGE hit on ABC. I hope that CBS realizes what a great comedy it has and I hope it remains on Mondays.

  9. Making Jason Alexander a show regular will do nothing.

His show tanked, and his guest appearance on Christine was uninspired.

The ex-husband character is annoying, but the brother on this show is hilarious. The scripts got better when they focused on the sister/brother interaction.

  10. I am so thrilled CBS finally gave the show a full season order! I could never figure out why CBS never gave the show the respect it deserves (JLJ won an Emmy the first season!). I think it is hilarious. Yipee!

  11. Yay! This, and 30 Rock, are the funniest shows on tv right now.

  12. Julia is a genius at enlivening mediocre material and the show has a whole has steadily improved. I’m happy it’ll be back.

  13. I am totally thrilled about this news! Whether CBS realized the quality show they have here or the fact that ABC was going to give her 22 episodes, either way Christine won in the end!

I hope this show gets some good pairings so it can really flourish. It would go nice with Back To You (if acquired). Rules and Mother are also two steady shows to have Christine with.

God Bless CBS and Julia Louis Dreyfus for making one of the smartest and funniest half-hours in recent years!

  14. While I fondly remember Julia Louis- Dreyfus from her Seinfeld days, I have never gotten into this series. Not for a second. I found it amusing- and more than a bit surprising- that OC had been renewed, while Moonlight was not. To turn down a PCA winning show, and keep a show that really is not as much of an asset, well- I hope CBS knows what they’re doing…

  15. I would have rather had CBS keep Moonlight and drop The New Adventures Of Old Christine. I don’t think its very funny but it sounds like I am in the minority.
I hope Monlight gets picked up by another network.

  17. Isn’t it interesting how varied these comments are? I wonder who decided that what ‘EYE’ say is going to make someone else think differently? The fact that I spent 50 years working in television does not make me a critic. New Christine is one of two shows
which my wife and I DO NOT MISS. Things were so different before everything changed. I am happy about the CBS decision. I would have been happy to watch it on ABC. No matter WHAT night.

  18. It’s about time! This show has gotten jerked around since it’s pilot - which was excellent. They deserve it. Congratulations !!!!!

  19. NEW CHRISTINE is consistently funny. Such a break from the typical “idiot husband/hot wife” formula that so many sitcoms follow. Wanda Sykes is the perfect foil for Julia Louis Dreyfus’ self-absorbed character. That, plus great cringe-inducing humor keeps me tuned in.

Watch MOONLIGHT while I’m working on the computer and still find it doesn’t always hold my interest. I want to like it–it’s like ANGEL without the humor–but the stories are so inconsistent from week to week, I won’t miss it terribly.
