Primetime Pilot Panic: 'Moonlight' To CW?

EXCLUSIVE: I've just been told by an insider that "there is a chance, only a chance" that Media Rights Capital which will be programming Sunday's two hours on the CW "may elect to take Moonlight as one of those two hours". This is developing to be quite a behind-the-scenes drama because the order came from Warner Bros TV this afternoon to start tearing the Moonlight sets down. But now WBTV will wait until Friday. Before it was cancelled, it had more than twice the number of viewers on CBS than Gossip Girl despite all the hype. So Moonlight could wind up the most watched CW show. Stay tuned.

  13. There has got to be an intelligent life form in the show business industry with the power to take on a quality show that is followed by millions of devoted viewers. CW has been very successful with “Supernatural” and Moonlight would be a feather in their cap.

  24. This would be the best move the CW could make. Not only are they gaining a huge fanbase, but an extraordinary cast. At least they could give it a try for one season. They won’t be disappointed with the results!

    Comment by Holly — May 13, 2008 @ 5:32 pm

  25. I was horrified to find out just now that my favorite show, Moonlight, has been cancelled. Please, CW, pick it up! All the loyal fans like myself will keep watching!

    Comment by Cynthia — May 13, 2008 @ 5:32 pm

  26. If this works, CW has a new viewer, smack bang in the most coveted demographic and with lots of disposable income. Just sayin’.

  30. Thank you for the news. I haven’t been adicted to a show since 10 years ago. Yes 10 long years. So I was so happy with Moonlight and so sure of the second season.Since it was cancelled lets’ just say I’ve been really down so this are good news for me. I don’t care which channel shows Moonlight I will follow. By the way CBS can forget me watching any of their shows. Just a way to show them the same support they show me and the rest of the fans. Thank you Nikki.

  36. This is awesome news for all of the Moonlight fans; and if it comes true it will be a special thing indeed. Nikki: Thanks for giving us this glimmer of hope. Now the big question: How do we reach out to the Media Rights Capital people so we can *encourage* them to do this for real? As you know the Moonlight fans are rapid and faithful. We won’t give up without a fight and we will bring our passion to the door of any group that is willing to go to bat for the show. Your help putting us in touch with the right people would be invaluable.

    Comment by Lee Ann (Rueben) — May 13, 2008 @ 5:42 pm

  37. Thanks for the small ray of sunshine. I’ll follow Moonlight anywhere. And I’d love to give CW more of my business. Please CW and Media Rights Capital, give this show a chance. There is such a devout following. I guarantee they’ll sustain a quarter or more of the audience, without a doubt. And we are quality downloaders. I buy from Amazon (’cause it’s up fast) and iTunes (’cause it’s compatible with my mp3 player) every weekn. Please, please please please CW and Media Rights Capital, make me not sad.

  38. figures an intelligently and cleverly written show, that requires creativity and imagination CBS decides to cut-ARGHHHHHH or should i say Rahh Rahhh

I hope CW picks up the show and runs with it. It has a huge fan base and on crappy friday night time slot to boot! Please!

I am not a tv watcher per se [devoted Boston Legal and House Fan] but Moonlighting for me makes it the trifecta!

Please. Please, Please keep this show going!

  39. Oh man! After the day I’ve had, this truly is an oasis in the desert. I know nothing’s in stone yet, but just the slightest glimmer of hope after all the hopelessness I’ve been reading today…

It’s now 1.45am here in the UK and I finally feel that I can go to bed and actually sleep - although it’ll be pretty uncomfortable with my fingers, arms, legs and anythig else I can cross; crossed! lol

Please CW, please Media Rights Capital, grab this show whilst you can. Where this show goes, over 7 million people are likely to follow! ;o) You won’t regret it!

    Comment by Mandy Holloway — May 13, 2008 @ 5:51 pm

  43. I will follow Moonlight wherever it goes. The cast is wonderful and the show deserves the respect it has earned and that CBS obviously is blind to.

  44. This is such amazing news! I’m already an avid watcher of both Supernatural and Reaper, which both appear on the CW. Both of which, might I add, are genre shows. So let’s hope this pans out, and CBS will realize what a horrbile decision they made and what potential they threw away.

    Comment by Cat — May 13, 2008 @ 5:53 pm

  45. Please let this be true. Moonlight deserves a second season. Please pick it up CW! Moonlight fans will follow this show anywhere.

I AM WITH ALL OF YOU , I WILL FOLLOW MOONLIGHT TO WHATEVER NETWORK THEY GO TO NBC/ABC/CW WHEREVER.
I HOPE THAT SOMEDAY CBS REGRETS WHAT THEY HAVE SO EASILY TURNED AWAY.THEY ARE SO MONEY HUNGRY AND MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE WILL LOSE AT SOME POINT IN TIME, THEY WILL GAMBLE AND LOSE.
ALEX O’LAUGHLIN (TRAVELING THE WORLD,THE POOR MAN IS EXAUSTED) AND THE CAST OF MOONLIGHT HAVE WORKED SO HARD FOR THIS SHOW TO MAKE IT WORK,CBS BLOCKED IT( IN MY OPINION) AT EVERY TURN.GOOD LUCK MOONLIGHT GOD BLESS.

  49. CBS are fools for letting it go. Yes, there were clearly internal staffing problems on the production, but with better management those could be cleaned up over the summer. Here’s hoping CW’s smart enough to see they’ll be picking up a show with higher ratings than anything they currently run.

    Comment by Xee — May 13, 2008 @ 6:02 pm

  50. I am devastated, too, and I will follow Moonlight to whatever station is airing it. Crossing fingers for this to happen.

  57. This is an interesting turn of events. I was wondering if someone would step up in the aftermath of the CBS announcement to scoop up the Moonlight viewing audience: rabid, loyal, and able to win the ML time slot on Friday nights. Looking at the CW schedule, it could use a boost and this would certainly help. Sundays may also give Moonlight a chance to take off running at a good pace. It will be interesting to see the numbers if this pans out.

    Comment by Cindy — May 13, 2008 @ 6:14 pm

  58. I hope the CW picks up Moonlight. Considering 10 million fans voted it as the Peoples Choice Award Winner, it would be a worthwhile investment. I will follow the show wherever it goes.

    Comment by Jo Lynn Pooler — May 13, 2008 @ 6:15 pm

  59. Please, please, please let that happen!

Why wouldn’t CW jump at the chance for a show that gets 7-8 million viewers every week? And it is supposed to be cheap to produce, so I don’t see the downside.

    Moonlight must not fade!

    Comment by Kimberly — May 13, 2008 @ 6:19 pm

  60. I hope the CW picks up the show! Thanks for the update Nikki! I really needed the boost.

  61. I had a friend sending me DVD’s overnight when I was in the UK until they started showing it there. Now that I’m back in the U.S. CBS cancels it?

To see Moonlight, Alex and Jason I’d gladly endure Gossip Girl.

Moonlight could be a goldmine for sponsors with products to sell to women 18+ and the fans will follow Moonlight to any venue.

    Comment by Linda — May 13, 2008 @ 6:21 pm

  62. I hope CW does pick up Moonlight. It is the best show on tv with great chemistry between the actors, fantastic storylines and a loyal fan following. There are so many stories yet to be told with this show. PLEASE KEEP MOONLIGHT.

  66. Maybe lifetime, or the we network should pick up moonlight based on the small random sample of the posters comments.

    Comment by John — May 13, 2008 @ 6:33 pm

  67. Please let this happen!!! PLEASE everyone, go to the cbs.com Moonlight board, find the phone number for Media Rights Capital, and CALL THEM!!

    Comment by Stacy — May 13, 2008 @ 6:39 pm

  68. Moonlights overall avg was 7.86 million and that does not include the 7 day time shifted numbers’s. And it also does not inclue the same day dvr numbers for the 5th episode because they did not post that week. Moonlight usually averaged about 1 million time shifted viewers. So Moonlight got anywhere from 7.5 million on a low week and 9 million on a really good week when including the time shifted numbers. I think the CW would be very happy with those numbers.

    Comment by Suzanne — May 13, 2008 @ 6:39 pm

  69. OMG! Fingers and toes crossed! I’ll follow Moonlight anywhere it goes, whatever night they show it. It’s the only show I enjoy to the fullest. Love my MickBeth, and my Josef, cannot live without my weekly ‘fix’ of them!

    Comment by LoveThatDoll — May 13, 2008 @ 6:41 pm

  70. Lea

The CW goes after teen age girls…and teenage girls like ‘bad boys’…moonlight is about a vampire whos supposedly sexy (I don’t see it) and has a ‘taboo’ relationship with a human…while fighting his vampire urges for the sake of helping the human race…sure he’s a bit older…but come on…doesn’t that sound familiar….just a bit…harkening back to when the CW made quality television (and was called the WB) that appealed to all demographics…i mean sure, it’s no joss whedon, it’s no tim minear or david greenwalt, it’s no mutant enemy writing staff…but a lot of those guys are out of work….hire one or two of em…and tweak the show and you’ve got a brand new angel.

For the sake of fulll disclosure, i saw every episode of buffy on first airing and one episode of angel (i somehow have never caught the ‘trip to europe’ episode that buffy was sort of in) and i was born in 1972 with ONE X chromosome and ONE Y chromosome

    Comment by John — May 13, 2008 @ 6:41 pm

  71. If any show deserves to be saved it’s Moonlight!!! Great fan base, Just love the actors. We can’t get enough of Jason, Alex and Sophia. Pleeeeese! Save Moonlight.

    Comment by Emily — May 13, 2008 @ 6:48 pm

  72. It would be great news. Of course the network who pick this show would already start with almost 8 million loyal viewers. Anyway I won’t get my hopes up yet , I don’t think I can’t take more horrible news. The last 24 hours have been a nightmare.By the way , thank you CBS for that!! Please CW pick Moonlight. Thanks Nikki.

    Comment by Tina — May 13, 2008 @ 6:55 pm

  73. Oh please, can you imagine the CW turning away 7+ million loyal viewers.

The world does not revolve around 16 year olds. You just think it does. Trust me I have one. And guess what, he likes Vampires and Moonlight.

Yeah CW–this would be a huge win for you!!

    Comment by Sue — May 13, 2008 @ 6:59 pm

  74. Lea, I know what you mean about Gossip Girl skewing younger in the demographics, but here’s why I’m left puzzled.

At 21 I had a lot of debt and no money. Now I have more than enough disposable income and I’m the sole decision-maker in my life. Season’s passes, merchandise, household goods etc…I do all the shopping and I get equal say in most decision-making processes. Advertisers should be begging me for my business, not the 18 year olds that have to ask mom for the iPhone.

Moonlight has fans of all ages. I’m not seeing a downside here, just win-win all around.

    Comment by Caroline — May 13, 2008 @ 6:59 pm

  75. Since Moonlight was pulling in over seven million viewers a week for the last few weeks, winning not only its timeslot but the coveted 19-to-49 demo, I should think the CW would leap at the chance to snag those viewers. Shows like Moonlight are boutique series anyway–not likely to appeal to the mainstream but which tend to develop loyal and vocal followings. Putting one of those shows on CBS is like trying to turn Faberge into Wal-Mart. Lifetime or SciFi or CW would love to gain that many viewers in an established audience base. Why aren’t they lining up to buy this show?

    Comment by Sarah Stegall — May 13, 2008 @ 7:00 pm

  76. This is the best show on TV!! Some intelligent network IS going to pick it up and have a “Buffy” on their hands with rights to a best selling franchise with millions of fanatic loyalists.

    SAVE MOONLIGHT!!!

    Comment by Carol K — May 13, 2008 @ 7:08 pm

  77. Re: Gossip Girl “winning the demo” - just barely. And, Gossip Girl had a huge advantage: it was shown on Wed. nights this season. Moonlight was on Friday nights at 9pm. The coveted “demographic” is out parting on Friday nights. Had GG been on during the same time slot it would not have had a 1.2/3. It probably would have had just as many, if not more, iTunes sales though. ;)

    Comment by Xee — May 13, 2008 @ 7:11 pm

  78. CW! What rocket scientists you are! Bless you! Bless you! CBS is nuts. Their loss is your gain. You have a built-in following for this tried and true show. Give us our Moonlight! I’ll buy whatever the sponsors sell!

    Comment by Wanda Laborde — May 13, 2008 @ 7:15 pm

  79. Caroline

You don’t necessarily represent the ‘average’ viewer of moonlight. I don’t know the numbers, I don’t work in the industry, but I know that CBS skews older in general on its shows, it doesn’t win the ‘18-49s’ when it wins nights (see thursday night semantic fights for ‘who is number 1′ vs CSI and GA)…so it’s great that you are a fan of moonlight but are you representative of the people who are viewing the show? Maybe maybe not.

Which leads to a bigger issue that just baffles me…through this entire technological revolution…why hasn’t ANYONE forced nielsen to get its act together and improve its technology…it’s just sad to me that they haven’t seemed to keep up with the technology…all that available data and they are still bassackwards and deciding what shows live or die.

And as for shows that ‘deserve’ to be saved, there are much better, more quality shows that get cacelled year after year than Moonlight, on every channel, INCLUDING CBS (anyone remembe American Gothic, a show where the town sherrif might have been the devil? HELLA better than moonlight and amazingly original)

    Comment by John — May 13, 2008 @ 7:15 pm

  80. I’m not a teenage girl, but I am a big Moonlight fan. This would be a great opportunity for the CW to expand its viewer base. I may be older, but I have disposable income to spend!

    Comment by CJ — May 13, 2008 @ 7:16 pm

  81. Here’s the number to call Media Rights Capital and tell them you want Moonlight. This is very important if you want the show renewed!
    Call 310-786-1600

They have a Moonlight voice mail set up at CBS so call and protest the cancellation!
    CBS:

  83. Here is the question I keep asking myself…Moonlight won the People’s Choice Award for Best New Drama…HELLO that means the people voted and they liked it so how in the heck could CBS truly justify cancelling…man you must have to be really stupid to be a TV executive.

    Comment by Mindy — May 13, 2008 @ 7:22 pm

  84. I don’t know the ins and outs, but I know that sci-fi has quite a bit in the pipeline as it were.

They’ve got another season of eureka coming, they are turning amanda tappings online series ’sanctuary’ into an ongoing, another season of Stargate Atlantis is coming, they like what the SJA and DR Who numbers are on friday night and there’s caprica coming.

Personally, I’d like to see Sci-Fi eliminate their entire ‘movie making’ budget since the sci-fi originals are terrible…and bring back two quality unfairly cancelled shows from their sister network over at USA….the 4400 and the deadzone, at least give the 4400 a mini series and a chance to tie up the loose ends.

TNT should also think about pursuing moonlight…i wonder if it would pair well with the closer and saving grace as the ‘8 pm’ show and give them a full 3 hour of programming.

  85. Calm down carol

Dollhouse won’t even be buffy like…if fox gives it 6 episodes before canning it (after marketing it terribly like they did with Firefly) i’ll be surprised….but please, the only thing buffy and moonlight have in common is the fact that they are both sort of about vampires…but that’s it.

This is the best show on TV!! Some intelligent network IS going to pick it up and have a “Buffy” on their hands with rights to a best selling franchise with millions of fanatic loyalists.

    SAVE MOONLIGHT!!!

Thanks for keeping us informed, Nikki.

  87. I hope CBS loss is CW gain. I watch a few shows on CW anyway, I would be happy to give them my loyalty and forget CBS. I think they would be very happy with the response of fans that they will receive. Please save Moonlight!!! My Friday nights with my family will not be the same without MickBeth !!!

    Comment by Barbara Ivy — May 13, 2008 @ 7:27 pm

  88. I am so pissed right now!!!!!

Gossip Girl originally aired on Wednesdays when there really wasn’t any real competition. Wasn’t too much on tv on Wednesdays. Now it’s on Mondays, let’s see how well it fairs with Heroes comes back on!

Moonlight aired on Friday nights where a lot of people were out partying for the weekend. To get 7 million + homebodies dedicated to watching your network on that particular night, CBS should be on their knees kissing our feet instead of slapping us in our faces with a bag of their feces!!!

    Comment by Outraged fan — May 13, 2008 @ 7:32 pm

  89. Please…please let CW take Moonlight. This is an awesome show and deserves to be given the chance to continue to prove it.

    Comment by Wendy — May 13, 2008 @ 7:36 pm

  90. please keep us posted. The CW would be very wise to pickup Moonlight with regular 8 million viewers in their backs

    Comment by Mike — May 13, 2008 @ 7:49 pm

  91. I would love for the CW to pick up Moonlight. I would follow it wherever it goes at any time and on any night. I somehow think the storylines and actors would feel much more at home on this network, too. I say give it a shot, CW! I know if Moonlight moves there I’ll be checking out the CW’s other shows a lot more closely, too!

As for ratings, Pamela, Moonlight scored over 8 million viewers for 6 out of the original 12 shows airing before the writers’ strike. It was closer to 8 million than 7 million on 4 of the remaining 6 episodes. That’s some pretty good numbers and the CW should be thrilled to gain all of these loyal fans.

    Comment by Terra — May 13, 2008 @ 8:02 pm

  92. God, please let it be true that CW will consider picking up MOONLIGHT. The show deserves a second chance with all the hard core, passionate followers.

  93. @John - YSR on Dollhouse. Honestly I cannot imagine why Whedon keeps going back to that network. I would love to see him make a deal with someone more supportive of good work. Can you imagine what he’d be able to do with a show on a network like HBO? o.O

    Comment by Xee — May 13, 2008 @ 8:04 pm

  94. Please please please CW save our show. It won a People’s choice award I voted for it so many times, it is my favourite tv show! It still has amazing ratings and CBS was a fool to get rid of it! Please save it. you saved one tree hill now please do the same for Moonlight PLEASE please please please!!!!

    Comment by Anonymous — May 13, 2008 @ 8:06 pm

  95. Everyone, please read and spread the word: there is a number you can call to reach CBS and get put through to a moonlight message line. It’s 323-651-0255. I found a few boards about this on the imdb site. I just called even though it’s nearly 11 PM EST here and after about 10 rings A REAL LIVE PERSON PICKED UP, asked whether I was calling regarding moonlight and put me straight through to the comment line. Please call, and leave a message that includes your demographics, especially if you’re in that 18-35 demographic! Maybe it’s too late, but at least they are still taking calls!

and if not… I hope the CW takes note, it would be a great addition to the network. Pair it on the same night with Supernatural and you’ve got a winner night!

  96. i hope that this is true for 2 reasons
    1. because moonlight is an awsome show which i want to keep watching(if cbs needs the slot space then just get rid of all that reality crap, the point of tv is to get AWAY from reality & get into fantasy, also welcome to axe all the forensic shows EXCEPT NCIS)
    2. i’ll finally have something to watch on sunday
this so better not be a trick, when i read that moonlight is axed, i wasn’t this pissed off since scifi axed the dresden files

When are these people going to realise that we have reached a generation where lots of people don’t watch TV on TV? But Rather through i-tunes or TiVo ect etc. This is a very good show and I hope people give it a chance. It has decent ratings considering it was on a Friday!
It won a people’s choice award for crying out loud! That means we like it and watch it. Please give Moonlight a chance.

    Comment by Caroline — May 13, 2008 @ 8:38 pm

  103. Seriously, what is the problem here? CW wants to skew younger? Well, which one of their younger skewing shows pulls in 7-8 million viewers? They don’t have one of those shows. Moonlight would be an automatic enormous hit for them if they added it to the schedule. It seems like a no brainer to me.

  107. Don’t get me started on Joss Whedon, he’s noe of the ‘big 3′ in my book…of course one of them doesn’t write TV and avoids movies like the plague (Gaiman) but Whedon, Gaiman, and Sorkin…they NEED to work on cable…without limitations…After getting canned on Wonder Woman, I don’t expect Joss Whedon to be interested in working with any warner affiliated programs and maybe he owes fox from doing the serenity film or maybe fox has a ‘first look’ deal with whedon…what do i know…but what i do know is that some of the best shows on television are littered with mutant enemy alumni, and if that doesn’t speak well of his ability to work well on television AND discover talented people…i’m not sure what does…he should be running more than his own shows and some comic books…guy should have serious power….and the business types should stay the HELL out of his way.

@John - YSR on Dollhouse. Honestly I cannot imagine why Whedon keeps going back to that network. I would love to see him make a deal with someone more supportive of good work. Can you imagine what he’d be able to do with a show on a network like HBO? o.O,

CW please pick up our show!

What network would like 8 million loyal fans from CBS? We waited through the strike (read Nikki hourly for news!), came back the instant Moonlight was on again and yet that still was not enough for CBS.

Our household’s 3 members of the 18-49 demo will be wherever Moonlight is and definitely not on whatever CBS doles out for Friday nights!

Have they noticed all the fan sites,my space pages, and fan videos on youtube? 127. I know demographics count but that doesn’t mean only that age group are watching the particular show. Moonlight appeals to many more, have they heard of broad appeal? Why does it have to be like something that has run before? Moonlight is Moonlight and doesn’t appear to be anything but its own sweet self. Somebody pick this show up, it deserves it, and so do the fans. An inbuilt audience who could refuse? A better time slot and more publicity you can’t lose! Oh, and ‘get a clue’ why don’t you. If you hate the show what are you doing reading and commenting about it!

    Comment by Lisa — May 13, 2008 @ 11:58 pm

  128. I’m a UK fan of Moonlight and was absolutely shocked to hear it hadnt been picked up for a second season after such a positive showing in its first season, 7/8 million viewers and a Peoples Choice Award despite all the behind the scenes problems and, from what I’ve read, no support from CBS. I really hope the CW or any other station decides to pick up this show and see it grow, it already has a star in the making in the wonderful Alex O Loughlin, a talented cast in Alex, Sofia Myles and Jason Dohring who have great chemistry, and have been working so hard recently to get Moonlight’s name out there. I would love to see it continue.

  138. Hi
Ive been watching MOONLIGHT inthe UK for several months now & absolutely love it. Mick is of course my main reason for being a fan, but I think the concept/story line is very innovative & fab! I have to admit I watch the show on Living TV at 10pm Tuesday, I watch the repeat at 11pm Tuesday & again when its repeated on Friday evening at 9pm! Sorry its sad but true!
Not many of my UK friends have heard of the show so Ive been telling all my friends about Mick and how GORGEOUS he is!
If the show is axed i will be so very sad, what will we do with out Mick St John? A world with Mick isnt worth living in!!!! He makes Tuesdays worth living!

I allow that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you are dealing with hurting people here1 And while you may not ’see’ what we all did, what gives you the right to say hurtful things to those who are already hurting? And just so you know, I am not a teenage girl..I’m a 57 year old grandma..and found Moonlight to be not only a great TV show, but a phnomenon in the effect it has had on people. I have seen you post on other forums, etc. You seem to love to bash whatever everyone else is for. Maybe you need to get a life? 146. I’m not a Moonlight fan, but it would be a great fit with Supernatural on Thursday nights, so I kind of hope the CW does pick it up. Smallville should never have been renewed, especially with so many of its cast and writers leaving or probably leaving. It should have been allowed to die its overdue death.

    Comment by Kerry — May 14, 2008 @ 7:12 am

  147. If the CW picks up “Moonlight”, it would be the GREATEST move EVER!!!! The CW is the network I watch almost all of my shows on now (”Smallville”, “Supernatural”, “Reaper” and YES, “Gossip Girl”) so if they add “Moonlight” to their schedule, I may never have to switch channels. However, I DO love watching “Moonlight” on a Friday night, but I’d MORE than happy to catch it on a Sunday if THAT means keeping it on the air.

    Comment by Darren — May 14, 2008 @ 7:16 am

  148. You geek fanboi losers. The show would just be moving from the *successful* CBS-owned network to the shitpot of CBS-owned networks, on a night when nobody would be watching except you chronic masturbators who have no lives.

  157. I think this is a great idea before it was known as Cw it was known as the WB and that had genre shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and of course Charmed. Moonlight would be a perfect fit to the CW and I believe it could end up being CW’s number one show. This could be a win-win situation for all involved including us the fans, because I’m sure that we would all follow Moonlight to the CW.

Moonlight has earned an deserves a second season. we the fans have earned a and also deserve a second season with out unwaivering support and the charity blood drives, etc

To Whom It May Concern I am huge fan of Moonlight which was shown on CBS. I know that Warner Brothers owns this great show but I wanted to let you folks know that Moonlight has a huge fanbase and since it appears that CBS doesn’t want the show or it’s fans we would ask that you folks consider bringing Moonlight the CW. This show has a huge fanbase already and I believe that Moonlight could end up being CW’s number one show given the chance. I know that myself along with all the other fans of Moonlight would definitely follow it to the CW if your network will pick it up. Please don’t let this fantastic show die

  171. Please CW pick up Moonlight! It’s been a bad day finding out that CBS canceled Moonlight. I am so sad. It is my favorite show!!! I am a married mother of 3 and this was my escape on Friday nights! I will follow Moonlight anywhere it goes. I seriously doubt that I will be watching any CBS shows from now on. It’s too disappointing. I wish Alex O’Loughlin, Sophia Myles, and Jason Dohring the best and hope they can continue their amazing chemistry together on Moonlight. I can’t get my hopes up, but I will be watching intently to see what happens to my favorite cast.

  176. I just received Alex’s My Space letter. It is so sad. He is devastated by the news as much as we are. It would be a miracle if CW picked up Moonlight. How could CBS do this - It won the People’s Choice Award!! I would think that if CW was going to pick up Moonlight that Alex would know - but maybe not. I would follow Moonlight anywhere. I am not going to get my hopes up, but will be watching intently what happens by Friday.

  177. There’s only one show I HAVE to be home to watch……Moonlight!
The producers haven’t even given it a chance…..with pre-emptions and writer’s strike. I sure missed my Alex. He’s gorgeous and has such a romantic flair….acting or not…..I don’t care!
And there’s an on-screen magic between the characters Beth and Mick.
What are you going to give us in place of Moonlight? Another dippy comedy show or how about yet another crime scene show…….even the writers have gotten tired of those! Dumb stuff I WON’T watch.

    Comment by Linda — May 14, 2008 @ 12:39 pm

  178. I would follow the show to the CW, watch all the commercials twice AND buy three of everything!

    Please pick up the show.

  179. Oh please… please….please. I can honestly say that I’m devastated about this development. Come on CW… Pick this show up. With our fan base they would have a slam dunk hit. I too will stand on the roof with a tin foil cap if that is what it takes. (as long as no one is looking….:))

Please Please don’t let Moonlight end It’s the best show that has ever been on and CBS never even gave it a chance when other shows were showing reruns to get people to see and check out other shows, CBS did’t show moonlight reruns and hardly ever had commericials for it, The show made my day even reruns would, it is the best show ever, the cast is great together, And there is loads of fans just look at ebay, websites, youtube and even doing a blooddrive, How could anyone in there right mind give up on this show, Please Please someone else, please save Moonlight. 182. Would be so grateful if this happened. Right now, the only CW shows I watch are Smallville and Supernatural. If they pick up Moonlight, they would be getting another piece of my time. My guess would be that if this happens it would end up being midseason, but I wouldn’t complain about that as long as I get more Moonlight.

    Comment by Christopher T — May 14, 2008 @ 1:23 pm

  183. The show is dead and gone, people. Move on. You’ll live–I promise.

    Comment by Can't Take it Anymore — May 14, 2008 @ 1:23 pm

  184. Unfortunately, many of the same morons who program CBS are also pulling the strings for The CW, which is why it has failed. Moonves, Tassler and Ostroff are so out of touch, it’s not even funny.

The CBS demographic is elderly retirees who have nothing better to do than veg in front of crime scenarios night after night. CW viewers are more savvy than that; they eat out, buy clothes, hit movie theatres, buy video games–it’s a demo advertisers want. More eyes watching Moonlight would translate to more viewers for other shows, via cross-promotion.

See, Dawnie, the 7-mil. you fell in love with for the 7th Heaven finale were one-timers. Moonlight has 7.5 million viewers EACH WEEK. Stick it on Sunday nights, and watch the residual effect on your Monday fare. It’s a no-brainer. But, unfortunately, you don’t appear to have a brain to reason with.

  185. I hope it does get renewed for a second season. It would be great to have TWO vampire shows on at the same time! New Ronin Productions is producing one right now as well, called THE FIXER, based on the Lawson Vampire novels written by Jon F. Merz. Vampire fans have been denied for too long! We want more cool vampire shows!!! I’d love to see Moonlight back on TV in the fall! Come on CW!

  186. Moonlight is the best show ever. It is the only show I would never, ever miss. It would be wonderful if the CW would pick up this fantastic show. Moonlight has millions of diehard fans. After the last episode of Moonlight this Friday, CBS will no longer be viewed in my home.

    Comment by Bonnie — May 14, 2008 @ 1:43 pm

  187. It would be a wise decision of any network to pick up this show. I do not watch any other shows on CBS. The only reason I caught the occasional Ghost Whisperer was because Moonlight was on afterwards. If the networks read any of the comments and posts and blogs and everything that I have seen, in many places, they would see how much the fans care about this show and will follow it. Don’t lose something that could turn out like Buffy or Angel did.

    Comment by FlaLadee — May 14, 2008 @ 2:36 pm

  191. First I’d like to say CBS please do the right thing and reconsider…8 million people can’t be wrong. If your not smart enough, then the CW should be sneaky enough to go in and make a deal of a lifetime. It will be their #1 show. If sunday is not available, why not use friday nights rerun spot for America’s Next top model. If your smart, as I wish/hope you are, 8 million viewers instead of 2.1 which is what model averages, should be a no brainer. Last, I am a Nielsen home viewer, and I have sent every executive who can make a difference at CBS an email with the above info telling them I will never ever watch a CBS show again. I don’t know if it will work, but I will try anything at this point!!!!

    Comment by Bridgette — May 14, 2008 @ 3:24 pm

  192. Sure hope that that the return of Moonlight is more than just a hope….The show is extremely well done, well acted and scripted. The chemistry between Mick and Beth is fabulous! Love the show……

  193. Give us a little faith in tv. Moonlight is great, and I crave more. So do a lot of people. We are a loyal fanbase ready to follow our show. How could you even think to say no to one of the sexyist stars on tv. CBS’s loss would definately be your gain. Think about bringing new people to your network. We a great bunch to have on your side.

    Comment by Lisa — May 14, 2008 @ 4:51 pm

  194. Does it really matter if the sets are trashed? MOONLIGHT isn’t really about the sets. So, Mick gets a new apartment next season. Big deal.

Here’s hoping this rumor pans out.

    Comment by Greg — May 14, 2008 @ 4:54 pm

  195. Moonlight has been one of the greatest shows to have been put on the air in years. This isn’t just a fan fad, on the money side of it, it’s good business. It’s fan fare is through the roof. The plot is enticing. Any one who’s EVER play White Wolf’s Vampire games can get into it, and people, like my step mom, who’s never done anything like that can get into Moonlight. Hit every end of CBS listed. AND if in the end it doesn’t work, just divert attention to another network.

What happened to Corlene? What about the bloodline? What about the comatose vampire from the 50’s? When will the mortal cure expire for Mick? What if Donnovan Sheppard’s family discovered a way into vampirism? There are so many stories to be told. CBS needs to recognize.

    Comment by Adele Kenney — May 14, 2008 @ 8:10 pm

  206. Honestly, Moonlight was the only show I watched on CBS. They have now given me a reason to dismiss them completely. CW is fantastic and is the network I watch more than any other. If they can find a way to grab onto Moonlight it’ll only help to boost their numbers and enhance their already amazing lineup. It’s hard to believe a show as great as Moonlight, with the viewership numbers it had not being renewed.

    Comment by Tammy — May 14, 2008 @ 8:25 pm

  211. Would a Sunday night spot be the best thing, tho? Just curious since I read the Sunday nights don’t get the best ratings. At this point, tho, if CW picks it up, it’ll be great. I just need it back in my life!

Lawson, that Fixer shows looks interesting to. Living vampires? Excellent! Good luck with it!

  212. Not only am I a fan of Moonlight, but I have convinced several friends and relatives that this is the show to watch! They are as loyal as I…and we discuss it every week.
I never felt the producers gave it half a chance. They want the stupid shows with the miniature killer……I always change the channel on that one!! How many times did they pre-empt Moonlight?? Way too many, and I was so mad!!
Nick is absolutely the man of my dreams! That kiss with Beth made me breathless………for real!!

    Comment by Debbie — May 15, 2008 @ 11:08 am

  218. The moral of this story, folks, is DON’T GET INVOLVED WITH A CBS SERIES. This network buys great, slightly different series & when they don’t turn into American Idol overnight, cancels them. Think “Jericho.” Now Moonlight, and they’re doing it again — their new season will have 2 more sci-fi kind of things. What are the odds they’re short-lived too? I’m not going to trust CBS again until they hire programmers who aren’t incompetent.

    Comment by Laurie — May 15, 2008 @ 1:08 pm

To be axed by CBS after all the adversity with the

    Comment by Joanne Boyd — May 15, 2008 @ 7:40 pm

  227. This is the only show I look forward to watching all week. It provides me with an escape from reality. I’m sick to death of fluff, cookie cutter comedies and “reality” TV that is anything butt. Why is CBS leaving behind the one show that allows me to escape this world for an hour a week?! The cast is electric, and the show entertaining.

The idea that they are cutting this show for the Old (and tired) Christine is offensive! I hate that show as well as the ridiculous How I Met Your Mother. If CBS cuts Moonlight, I will cut CBS from my viewing line up since Moonlight’s the only show on CBS that I watch now.

If the CW saves this show, it will have a new and devoted fan more than happy to show her appreciation.

    Comment by Tina Schaeffer — May 15, 2008 @ 8:00 pm

  228. Please save “Moonlight”!! It’s simply one of the best shows out there! It gives a great story, and it moves quickly. It’s like watching a movie every episode!! Please, don’t pass this by. At least think about it!!!

  233. This demographics stuff is kind of silly where this show is concerned. I am a grandmother and my sons, their families including my grandchildren never miss this show. One thing that is being overlooked is how many people got into this show (that I know anyway) from reading Stephanie Meyer’s books starting with Twilight. Same idea, written for teens but enjoyed by myself, friends my age, my sons and daughters in law. Either we are young at heart or juvenile I suppose, but you can bet when Twilight comes out in December a lot of people will be clamoring for this kind of story. The fan base for the books is huge. I just wanted to join the party saying how amazing it would be if CW would pick up Moonlight’s options! I’m heartbroken about losing such a promising new story. It has so much talent and potential, not to mention the chemistry between the cast members. The fanbase is already solid and very loyal! Moonlight has touched my heart and soul like nothing before, Buffy was wonderful but Moonlight takes you light years beyond all the crazy, stressful moments of life today for one hour each week, I have never tried to save a TV show before, but Moonlight deserves to go on for all the dedicated fans and specially for the actors of this show especially Alex O’Loughlin who has put so much of his heart and soul into the show, he is a great actor that will soon be noticed by all the world with or without Moonlight, but wouldn’t it be better if it was the CW that gave him and this show the room to grow on their Network. Please Moonlight is a Warner’s Bros production - it should have been on the CW from the beginning. Please do the right thing now and pick up this show for a second season. Thank you

I have e-mailed and called everyone on all phone numbers and even my affliates and they have been so nice and pleasant.

Can some one give me again the CW website? I agree with everyone and that wherever Moonlight goes their fans will truly follow. I boycotted “Ghost Whisperer” one of my favorite shows and finale tonight and Numbers which I rarely ever watch. There will be a new show coming on in Moonlights place called “The EX LIST” but 2 to 1 the show will not have a loyal following because it took the time slot of Moonlight.

I also wonder if they are testing the Neilsen numbers for the reruns that are coming I think up until July I know there is a re-run next week. I encourage other people to watch the reruns as well.

Anything else we can do if we have not done it already?
What are they doing the demographics for when you call the CBS phone line?

Moonlight Fans we might make a difference after all-because we care more than CBS. I think our passions and love for the show speak for themselves.

If you want inspiration look at the website: http://www.trevormorris.com he has done some music for ‘Moonlight” and other movies and some of you might be familiar with “The Tudors.” The CD is now out on the soundtrack. Then go to You Tube and watch the song called ” Sleeping Night” by Nightwish-wow-the uplifting music with help you during this time of transition with “Moonlight.”

  244. Hi

Im from Ireland and am absolutely devastated to hear that CBS has the cheek to cancel one of the best shows on tv. I am a complete devotee to show. I love moonlight it is such a great show to watch. 16 Episodes is not nearly enough.

I really hope that someone picks Moonlight up for Season 2. It is the best show on television.

Hope will see Season two of Moonlight Soon?

  245. Come on now, I am a grandmother in love with this show….and Alex is the only thing on TV worth watching right now…give me a break, I was a huge Jericho fan and you took that away, now you are dumping another great show for what reason, may I ask? Why doesn’t someone listen and put this show on CW, Supernatural is a great show with a huge following on that, Moonlight would fit right in….it is not only the young people who are in love with these shows.!!!!!

  246. The season finale and final episode of Moonlight on
CBS last night was phenomenal!! What a great show it was. I saw sobbing on the sofa thinking I may never
see Mick and Beth together again. What the HELL is
wrong with CBS? I hate big network politics. There
has to be some other network out there with the vision
and forethought to realize that this show MUST go on!
The season finale left all of us MANY fans just salivating for more! 8 million viewers are screaming
    for it!!!!

  247. I am extremely glad to hear Moonlight still has a chance. It is a show full of talented actors and actresses who have put their hearts into making this show the best it can possibly be.

  248. I was so sad to see that CBS pulled the plug. It really did the show NO favors with the delay after the writer’s strike. I kept looking for it and got the Price is Right instead?!?!?!
The characters in this show are the only ones from a new show that I cared anything about. I taped it if I couldn’t be home to watch it and there is only one other show that gets that kind of loyalty form me.

  249. I really want Moonlight to continue, but, wow, I was so disappointed in that kiss in the finale last night, I have seen Sophia in movies, so I know she can give a good kiss while acting, but Alex obviously can’t, that was one of the most disappointing kisses I have seen in a very long time, I would have thought I was watching a movie from the 40’s, no passion was shown at all with that completely closed mouth boring kiss. If that is the best Alex can do, maybe it is better off the show got cancelled now afterall.

  251. Please, Please, Please, Please bring MOONLIGHT back, I too will watch no matter what I have to miss to see it! I am hooked totally on this show. I loved it from the first episode. It deserves to be on, what a stupid mistake they are making! Please keep this show on, all the cast are wonderful and the special bond between Mick and Beth reminds me of Luke and Laura on All My Children when I was a teenager! Bring it back, somebody! It will be worth it! I promise, I am not the only one!

    Comment by Liz — May 17, 2008 @ 7:54 pm

  253. PLEASE I think that this is the best show on the air and I was extremely upset when I heard it was being cancelled I hate to get so involved in any series for fear of cancellation and here we go again. Please CW make a great buisness move and carry on Moonlight and I would love to see Alex again

    Comment by Maesy — May 18, 2008 @ 6:36 pm

  254. Somebody please give this show another chance! I mean, how many shows could withstand what Moonlight had to go through in its first season, with the writer’s strike interrupting it after only a few episodes into its first season? Come on! That’s not fair! It deserves a complete, uninterrupted season to get its stronghold. 8 million viewers after all that, a People’s Choice award, blood drives, etc, how much more do you need to see this is a diamond in the rough? Worth picking up, CW, trust me. You won’t be sorry you did! And you will gain 8 million new devoted fans to boot! Its a win-win!
    PLEASE KEEP THE MOONLIGHT GLOWING!

Devoted viewer in Oregon in the 18-49 demographic,
    Angela

  255. I agree with many of you about Moonlight. I wait all week to watch the Friday night line up. I LIVE for Moonlight. I’ve been getting bored with Ghost Whisperer and Numbers, but Moonlight was fresh. I grew up in the Dark Shadows era. So I really love this show. Alex and Joseph aren’t too bad on this old lady’s eyes either…LOL

  256. PLEASE take up moonlight!! I really loved the show, I cried when it was over!! It’s one of the most romantic things I’ve ever seen!!!

  258. I can’t believe they canceled Moonlight!!!!!! It was my favorite show. I gave up all the other tv shows that I was into just for Moonlight. I have got all my friends completely hooked and now it is gone. I am saddened. I hope someone else picks it up. They will have a huge fan base that will follow Moonlight where ever it might go. We need to get something going to make sure we do not lose this show.

  260. I watch a whole lot of shows. Moonlight is my absolute favorite. It is also the only show that my husband will stop whatever he is doing to sit and watch with me. This show needs to be picked up…it is a MISTAKE to let this show slip through the cracks like many others have in the past.

    Comment by mary — May 21, 2008 @ 5:10 am

  261. I can’t understand CBS. What are they thinking? This was the best show on Friday night, and any other night for that matter. I looked forward to it all week long. My daughter and I watched this together, there’s only one other show I can say that about. I’m tired of stupid situation comedies that insult my intelligence. I want to be entertained. Moonlight was refreshing and exciting to watch. Gee I thought that was what TV was supposed to be. If any station picks up this show, you will have 2 new loyal viewers for life. I’m 45 and my daughter is 15. That’s a lot of years. Please, bring back this show. I mean, it won the People’s Choice Award with not even a full season, thanks to the writer’s strike. Just imagine what it could do if it had a full season, uninterrupted. WOW!!! THINK ABOUT THAT!!!

    Comment by Luna — May 21, 2008 @ 7:47 pm

  262. ‘Moonlight’ episodes were entirely self-contained stories, like CBS lead-in ‘Ghost Whisperer’ and lead-out ‘Numbers,’ a pickup could have been tempting. But ‘Moonlight’ is semi-serialized, and ratings for such shows usually only trend one direction. Once viewers step out of an ongoing story line, they rarely step back in. This has been the case with ‘Lost,’ ‘Heroes,’ ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and, yup, that CBS harbinger of cult-TV doom, ‘Jericho.’

  263. Thanks for the info about Mooonlight being possibly saved. Love the show, it deserves a 2nd chance….come on CW!

  264. I’m thinking that if I have all my favorite shows on this cannel, I won’t have to want for anything more. Let’s see, Gossip Girl, Moonlight, and next we might try to get Shark on her as well. Heaven…I’m in heaven…

  270. This is the best news I’ve heard in a week! A glimmer of hope is all we rabid fans need to keep up the good fight! I’ve always thought the CW is the best place for Moonlight - if it had premiered on CW in the first place, renewal would have been a no-brainer. Put Moonlight on Thursdays after Supernatural and CW will ROCK! Thursdays would be the new Must See Tv … and CW won’t know what to do with all of us passionate Moonlight supporters. Please CW! Hear out Cry! Save our Moonlight and our gratitude will be boundless! VSRRR!!!!!!

  271. To the Powers-That-Be: MOONLIGHT still has ‘life’ left in it. The entire cast is talented, scripts are nicely written and the King Louis storyline would be so intriguing. Please let it LIVE on.

    Comment by Tia Clark — May 22, 2008 @ 2:50 pm

  272. This would be so great if this show was saved. The numbers should tell someone that it is a fantastic show and need to go on. Please keep this show going!!

  273. Please, please don’t let Mick fade into the night. This was one of the best shows on T.V. in a long time. Don’ let them take Mick and Beth away!

  274. I SWARE…Either I have horrible taste in television or networks are not as bright as they think!!…
Yet again I am crazy about Moonlight and TA-DA…being cancelled!! I am a devoted fan of CW’s Smallville and Supernatural already and believe ML would be a good fit!I’m hoping this is not the end for Mick and Beth!!
