Primetime Pilot Panic: 'Moonlight' Not On CBS Fall Schedule But Not Dead; Show Lobbying For Back 13-Episode Order

cbslogosmaller.JPG

The news just came in to me from my sources.... "They're fighting for a back 13 at mid-season, but Moonlight is definitely not on the fall schedule. But it's not dead, either. Insiders tell me the sticking point is money: that CBS wants Warner Bros to "step up" more financially. But WBTV is saying back to CBS that the network has to step up as well, even though CBS doesn't own the show. Here's what I can tell you about the behind-the-scenes:

Moonlight has been fraught with problems (see below). But CBS' Nina Tassler told the producers that she was "very happy" with the direction of the series. The show pitched her the stories for all next season, "and Nina loved them". And then CBS gave the show its list of what the network wanted. But CBS made clear that the renewal of the show was "all going to be dependent on making the last four shows of this season ratings-wise. Well, those ratings were only fair. They didn't win the night, but they won their demos. On the other hand, Friday's ratings are always low. But the real story is, as usualy in Hollywood, all about the money. Even though comparatively Moonlight is being done on the cheap (especially when put up against another WBTV show, Pushing Daisies on ABC, which is a notoriously expensive production), and was picked up in the beginning by CBS for a relatively low licensing fee, CBS now wants Warner Bros to pick up more of the tab. There was a specific conversation between the two Big Media outfits about this on Wednesday of last week. "We need you to step up," CBS reportedly told WB. To which WB responded to CBS, "You step up, and we'll step up." Interestingly, I hear that CBS just ordered to series the pilots The Mentalist and 11th hour which both have higher licensing fees than Moonlight. But the producers knew all along that their series was "on the bubble," so to speak. And iun response to communication pushing the network to pick up Moonlight, I understand rthat CBS responded to the effect, "Where's WB? Why won't they step up?"

Meanwhile, there have been other problems. Coming back from the writers strike, the executive producer and showrunner Chip Johanssen was cut loose, despite being a close friend of Tassler’s. Also, series creator Ron Koslow was shown the door after the picket signs went down. That left no official showrunners in place to guide the episodes produced after the strike ended. Husband and wife writers / producers Harry Werksman and Gabrielle Stanton were informally given the reins, and they supervised the most recent four shows ending the season. The question is whether they are up to the task. I hear the Moonlight producers offered to change showrnners to get a CBS renewal. Already, the fallout has led one of the few surviving players, staff writer and producer Jill Blotevogel, to be unceremoniously dumped before any renewal is announced. There's a rumor which I havenm't confirmed that, if CBS does renew, it may bring the showrunners from the expected-to-be-cancelled Shark to come in and retool Moonlight.

  1. Thanks Nikki for the update.
What did you mean by “not dead yet”?
What are the chances of revival after the upfronts?

THE SHOW WON AN AWARD WHICH IS BETTER THAN ANY NEW-COMER YOU MIGHT REPLACE IT WITH. IT HAS A RESPECTABLE SIZED AUDIENCE AND CONSISTENTLY TAKES THE DEMO FOR THE 18-49 FEMALES…WHO, BY THE WAY, BUYS EVERYTHING THE HOUSEHOLD WANTS AND NEEDS!

  5. Thanks so much for following this, Nikki. I’m one of the legions of fans following the Moonlight renewal craziness and I’m just desperate for more episodes.
The ratings haven’t been bad - they win the demos every time - and the cult value of this show is astronomical. You would be shocked the amount of money I’m willing to pour into Moonlight if only they’d let me.
I wish you could buy stock in TV shows, the fans would fund this show in a heartbeat.

Why can’t they just put this on the WB, er CW network?

  11. Nikki, is there no chance CBS and WB will come to an agreement and Moonlight will be on the fall schedule or would the agreement only be for a back 13 at midseason? I just cannot believe this is happening. Just last week everyone said it was a done deal for renewal.

  15. Moonlight is the best show on television and CBS does this? What are they thinking? And dumping Jill Blotevogel is just insane - she is one of the “heart and soul” of Moonlight. Da** politics! The fans want this show to continue, the story to continue, the romance to continue.

I, too, would buy stock in this show! Please, CBS and WB rethink this! Nielsen ratings do not show the whole picture - look at downloads, awards (PCA), even TVguide voting. Have you checked out comments on the Moonlight websites? What about the cast reception at Paley? You are missing the proverbial boat on this one!

    Comment by Lynnrxgal — May 12, 2008 @ 3:51 pm

  16. Moonlight’s quality has consistently improved, episode over episode, so those that watched the first 3 episodes, should watch the rest before writing the show off. Unlike Bionic Woman, that started off horribly and got worse, Moonlight started off on shaky ground and then continously improved. The last 4 episodes show that Harry Werksman and Gabrielle Stanton have what it takes to produce/create/write a great show as I think those were some of the best episodes yet. Moonlight has won the demo for its timeslot each time and while there is a dip in ratings between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs, I think that’s easy enough to address next year, as I’m sure there are many viewers that probably didn’t give it a chance after the first one or two episodes, but would probably be willing to check it out to see if it’s improved next year. For those viewers that did stick around, Moonlight has been consistently be able to hold onto them, episode over episode, which makes it worth renewal, IMO. While it may not get the ratings of GW or Numb3rs, it has a strong fan base, great numbers in the 18-49 demo category and it’s solid performance show that the viewers are willing to stick with the show. Try it on another night if necessary, the fans will follow as long as it’s promoted, but just renew it!

  17. this day started out so well and now is just falling apart. i can’t take any more bad news about Moonlights renewal with CBS. CBS needs to get their act together and “bite the silver bullet” and support Moonlight. The fans have been screaming to get a second season. Blood has literally been spilled in the shows name and yet nothing from CBS.

  18. Thanks for the info. I too agree, Moonlight is a Great show and deserves bettter treatment! I hope the ptb will listen to the fans (who have MONEY) and will spend it where & with whome they like. Moonlight needs a stable writing team/show runners so the ratings will increase. The fan base is solid, and should grow with the right team behind it.

    Comment by Beth — May 12, 2008 @ 4:07 pm

  19. WB can’t produce shows for the license fees. They are so top heavy with suits that they can’t make up their mind in time to compete at a cost effective level. The in fighting at the studio level is wasting money and time. On top of all that it is one of the most expensive places to produce a show with most of the overages coming from the studio itself. They need to broom the suits and let producers produce and writers write.

  20. Oh man this is AWFUl news! Especially when everyone has been saying it was so likely to be renewed….I can’t believe this is happening! :( What nonsense, isn’t the whole idea to win in that coveted demographic? Then why reject a show that does?! And why do they think the show needs new direction, it’s a great show, and the recent episodes have been some of the best yet! They’re obviously up to the task….

This is the only CBS show I watch–if they cancel it, then so much for that network for me….

  22. Moonlight is the reason I watch CBS on Friday night, along with Ghost Whisperers and Numbers! The plot thickens each week and keeps you anticipating for the following week. The cast are absolutely amazing and worth renewing for another season. CBS, you have to renew Moonlight.

  25. I agree. This sucks. Especially about Jill. She’s great. “What’s left behind” was one of the best episodes ever and she wrote it.They win their demo but don’t top ratings for Desperate Housewives or some other top tenner. Geez. What’s this about it being done on the cheap? Always thought everybody was complaining about cost anyway. It’s only season one folks. Remember NBC dumped JAG after it’s first episodes. CBS picked up the series and it took off for ten years! Come on, both CBS and WB, you’ve got a gem here. Polish it

    Comment by Linda Mercer — May 12, 2008 @ 4:47 pm

  26. Well this is unfortunate. USA Network has a great one-two punch on Fridays with Monk & Psych; the only reason I gave that up was because I started watching Moonlight and Ghost Whisperer before it (Numb3rs is a show I routinely watch.). Should CBS take Moonlight out of the equation for whatever reason, I’ll still watch Numb3rs on Friday, but I’ll be tuned into another network for something else before it comes on because frankly, without Moonlight to shore up its paranormal offerings on Fridays, the lineup feels a little weak to me. I am certainly not that attached to Ghost Whisperer without the lure of Moonlight afterward.

  29. We want Moonlight! I want Moonlight!!! Moonlight did win its time slot for CBS. They have stayed consistent in their ratings and helped CBS to win the night!

I cannot believe that all we have been through with Moonlight and all the hype that it was more than likely being renewed that it comes down to this. If CBS doesn’t renew Moonlight, I will not watch CBS on Friday nights! And if they cancel Moonlight they will have some very mad, rabid Moonlight fans to contend with as we will not go down without a fight!

Come on CBS, listen to the viewers! We WANT MOONLIGHT!!! Give us a full 2nd season pick up!!!

    Comment by Gayle Shenson — May 12, 2008 @ 5:31 pm

  32. It wins the demo, but it’s smushed in between two other shows that win the demo. And it loses viewers from the show before it and and about 2 million viewers jump in to watch the show that follows it. It’s the weak link of the night. That’s why it’s not on the fall schedule. CBS canceled Close to Home which did better than ML in both total viewers and the demo.

    Comment by Kara — May 12, 2008 @ 5:46 pm

  33. Ok…so i came into the series around episode 11 and after i saw it i was up all night looking for the next previous episodes that i had missed. If cbs cancels moonlight they will lose not only me but im sure many viewers. I also watch ghost whisper and if moonlight goes…so do i. so cbs needs to get there heads on straight and just give us the second season.

    Comment by Kristy — May 12, 2008 @ 5:55 pm

  34. Just how does this renewals system work? I admit that I’m shocked that Moonlight is not coming back because the negative trend seems to be something from out of the blue!

As far as CBS’s inclination are concerned, I’m looking at new episodes, a new message board, positive feedback from TPTB thus far, increased promotional coverage, just to name a few.

And then there’s all those attributes the show has managed to garner on it’s own: a PCA award, stable ratings, a cult following that came back after a four month hiatus, the blood drive publicity, all those TV guide awards [sure, why not?]. And most importantly, it wins the timeslot and the demo every week. It’s inexpensive to make and the episodes are just getting better.

So what more does a show need to do to stay on the air?

    Comment by Caroline — May 12, 2008 @ 6:25 pm

  35. I don’t know if it matters but Moonlight has aired 3 of the last four episodes and they did win their timeslot for CBS during Sweepos.

Maybe they want higher ratings and I was confident they would get there. It is difficult to get all the way back with a new show after the strike. I hope CBS gives Moonlight the chance.

    Comment by tubpat — May 12, 2008 @ 7:16 pm

  36. CBS is making a big mistake if they cancel Moonlight. It is one of the only shows that appeal to a younger demographic. They hardly promoted it, its only promotion came from word of mouth, and it still won the PCA. CBS has not given Moonlight the chance it deserved to become a ratings giant.

    Comment by Mill — May 12, 2008 @ 7:28 pm

  37. This is the first network show that I have watched religiously since The West Wing. This show is exactly what you would want as you are going into the weekend: entertaining and fun. Please don’t try to attempt another show in its place, you won’t get such devoted fans on any other show you try. And lets have more storylines with Josef…the character is an untapped resourse!

    Comment by Katie — May 12, 2008 @ 7:54 pm

  38. This sucks! With all that I’d been reading lately, I was confident “Moonlight” would be renewed. I can’t believe it all comes down to a p***ing contest between CBS and WB over money. I like “Ghost Whisperer” too, and it only does slightly better in the ratings. Yet there was never any question that it would get renewed. I hope all of CBS’s expensive new shows fail miserably!

  39. This day turned out to be so heartbreaking. MOONLIGHT is like a once-in-a-lifetime show for me. How did the show prospect go from “all but certain” just a few days ago to this?? The show has given me, and according to the views expressed in countless websites from rabid followers a lot of joy and time to reflect. Please give us Season 2 already.

  40. A show about a good-guy vampire who works as a private investigator roaming the streets of Los Angeles helping out? Hmmm, this premise sounds really really familiar, wasn’t this show called…..ANGEL???
“Moonlight” is the ultimate in hack writing and I hope it isn’t resurrected.

  44. Moonlight is one of the best shows out there- Don’t these CBS exec’s watch their own shows? if so, how could they cancel this show. How can they not pay attention to what the fans have and are willing to do to keep this show on the air. We give Blood. We vote- hence PCA and TvGuide awards. they want money.. keep this show on the air. give us Memorabilia to purchase and the fans will keep you in the money.. Have They even looked at YouTube? I agree with many here. Without Moonlight I don’t have a reason to keep watching CBS. I Like Ghost Whisperer and Numbers and for 3 hours I will stay in on Friday- Without Moonlight- I’ll look elsewhere for a good time. PLEASE CBS Listen to the Fans. This show is a Diamond in the Rough and has so much potential!

    Comment by Tina — May 12, 2008 @ 11:26 pm

  45. I started watching Ghost Whisper and Numb3rs because they bookend Moonlight. I won’t watch them if Moonlight is gone. And after this I refuse to ever again try out a new network show again; I’ll just wait to rent them on DVD if they make it to DVD. I started watching Moonlight against my better judgment because from the start it was on the bubble, and I had this feeling I would fall in love with it. I did. It’s been like a love affair and what I’ve done more for this show with supporting various drives, polls, petitions, posting online, etc. I’ve never done before for any other show. This is the first CBS show I’ve watched regularly in years and the first network show I’ve been hooked on in 10 years. I guess it’s true having a love affair ultimately will break your heart. Today’s my birthday, and the bad news about Moonlight chances of renewal was my big birthday treat. Happy birthday to me. Thanks so much CBS! Between this and all but one friend forgetting this is my birthday, this was my worst birthday ever.

Please give “Moonlight” the chance it deserves. It is my favorite show and I watch CBS all the time.
NCIS, Without a Trace, Whost Whisper and of course “Moonlight.” There was so many silly shows on the air now and “Moonlight” is different. Of course, like alot of woman I love Alex O’Loughlin but I am also a older woman. This show has me on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. Please, please bring the show back in the fall of 2008.

They have really given the inpression that they were going to renew. I know this is a business but this is just so unfair to the fans. CBS and WB need to come to an agreement and give Moonlight a much deserved 2nd season.

  52. So…this is the show that ate Greenwalt (Angel), Johanssen (X-Files), Koslow (Beauty & the Beast), and now Blotevogel, arguably their best writer? The talent thrown under the bus for this show is astounding. Cancel it already before it eats Tokyo.

    Comment by Jonkadane — May 13, 2008 @ 8:49 am

  53. Moonlight deserves a 2nd season! Come on CBS, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water! Why make this show suffer because of this season’s events – much of which are beyond their control? The list? Changes in show runners, the writer’s strike, the multiple breaks in airing of episodes, a viewer ratings system that is not staying “up with the times”, and to top it all off, it airs on Friday nights; a night when the much sought after younger demo group is out on the town or in May, typically studying for their end of the semester finals, and simply forced to tape the show! Gosh, despite all that Moonlight still scores a win for CBS on Fridays! Moonlight is a hit show, one of the best CBS has had in a long time. Please renew for a 2nd season.

    Comment by Margie — May 13, 2008 @ 9:28 am

  54. Seriously, I haven’t seen fans this rabid since I was part of the Highlander: The Series fan scene! (or maybe the Firefly/Serenity scene–those people aren’t playin’ around either! ;o) )

Though I have to say that if it keeps gaining momentum as it has the Beth/Mick romance frenzy is going to surpass the Duncan/Tessa/other woman of the year romance frenzy by far!
(Alex and Sophia play off/with each other so well…and Jason is the perfect counterpoint to Mick.)

And besides, Alex’s sssssmokin’ hot looks/voice and the Mick/Beth romance aside, this is simply a good show! It deserves a 2nd season in a decent/stable time slot. If CBS will let give it half a chance and if the show can hold onto good quality writers this could turn into a very long running series for them!

C’mon CBS! Give us fans a chance to show you we’re in it for the long haul with you and renew Moonlight! (otherwise I’m never watching CBS again. *lol*)

WE (the fans deserve a whole season of Moonlight and a fair shot. It is not another Angel show. Please do not do this. I personally will stop watching CBS all together is you don’t give us a whole new season of Moonlight. You never can see a great investment when you have it. 62. I have several things to say about Moonlight’s Impending Doom:

    1. Moonlight can’t be that expensive to produce. Why would CBS cancel it and take on the risk of a new, more expensive show? Just doesn’t make sense.
    2. We won’t know for sure until tomorrow, right? Maybe it will come back late in the season but that’s still something.
    3. The show won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New Drama. It was up against Gossip Girl. You can bet CW is giving Gossip Girl a second season.
    4. Which brings me to my other point, let another network pick up this audience favorite. Alex O’Loughlin was in The Shield on FX last year. Let FX pick up Moonlight for a handful of episodes, just to see what would happen. Imagine how mind-blowing a sexy vampire show would be on FX… the same station that brought you Nip/Tuck and The Shield. It’s a guarantee that we would see more sex and violence than we would ever see on CBS Friday nights. Doesn’t a vampire show deserve the opportunity to spread its immortal wings a bit?
    5. And, Jason Dohring had 3 successful seasons on Veronica Mars, with Joel Silver, I might add. Maybe CW would like to pick up this series and capitalize on its rabid fan base. No doubt half of Moonlight’s fans were residuals from Veronica Mars.

  63. Moonlight is by far a great show. I love many shows as well. Lost, 24, Prison Break, Desperate, Heros to name a few. As sad As I would be to see those shows canceled in its short season, I would be more sad if it happend to Moonlight because Monnlight wasnt given the best chance. I was told by Amazon.comI would enjoy this show. I was skeptical at first becuase CBS was never my network but I gave it a chance. I loved it way more that Pushing Daisies, Bionic Woman, Dirty Sexy, you name it. Then it never got advertisments, now it will be canceled. Great. Take it out on the fans and the show. Please dont let it happen

  66. I never watch CBS except for MOONLIGHT and GHOST WHISPERER now I won’t watch it at all. Why do networks always hype shows and then always take them off the air. Give MOONLIGHT a chance This always happens.. I get involved with a TV show ansd it’s gone Maybe I should Blow Up My TV. Do that many people really watch Survivor and Big Brother? That’s what’s wrong with TV. We have only ourselves to blame. We watch Crap and therefore Crap stays on. Please bring back MOONLIGHT!!

  69. If CBS can not see the wonderful thing they have in Moonlight, then they don’t deserve such a great show on their network. I will no longer tune into their channel for any reason without Moonlight. I don’t like Numbers that much. As to the ratings…CBS needs to wake up to a digital age and realize that neilson ratings are fifty years behind the times and need to be dumped faster than they can drop Jill…who never should have been dropped by the way. This is just more evidence that CBS doesn’t deserve to have shows as great as Moonlight with casts that can not be topped.

  71. I have been a faithful viewer of this show from day 1 and it’s really the only thing I watch on CBS. It would be days I wouldn’t even plan to go out on Friday nights because I wanted to watch Moonlight at 8pm. And now I find out that this wonderful show has been cut off at the knees. Has CBS even taken into account how many people are recording this show? Has it taken into account how many people have TiVo? Has it taken into account how many people go over each other’s homes to watch it?

I don’t think so. Once again, another network has deemed its viewers dispensable and irrelevant. Once again, network execs care only about the bottom dollar, not their viewers feelings.

Well, I for one hope they feel the pinch of my absence in their little ratings war, because I will no longer tune into CBS after Friday. As a matter of fact, I’ll only tune in once Moonlight begins and will IMMEDIATELY turn the channel once it’s over.

I do hope that CBS gets a change of heart and for once, does the right thing and renew this amazing series.

You don’t want them to go but in the end you know it will happen. I have never seen a show like Moonlight. Everything you see fangs and all look totally real. The actors are great the show is great, CBS is great. I just wish other people would see it as I do. The best show there is!

Do not cancel this series. 8 million people each week watch this show. if you cancel the series, that means that you’ve just ticked off 8 million people. I wouldnt want to be CBS right now. Revenge has a smell, and its 8 million pounds of Garlic a week.

Gossip Girl originally aired on Wednesdays when there really wasn’t any real competition. Wasn’t too much on tv on Wednesdays. Now it’s on Mondays, let’s see how well it fairs with Heroes comes back on!

Moonlight aired on Friday nights where a lot of people were out partying for the weekend. To get 7 million + homebodies dedicated to watching your network on that particular night, CBS should be on their knees kissing our feet instead of slapping us in our faces with a bag of their feces!!!

  84. CBS does not care about fans. they care about ratings. unfortunately that takes around 13+ million fans between Shark, Jericho, and Moonlight. If CBS cared about fans these shows would still be on. as for nina giving promise. She did the same thing last may to Jericho. It may be over for Jericho on CBS, but Moonlight fans don’t give up. Send garlic, or whatever. write letters, let them know you want your show back. I will back your campaign, and let others know about it. CBS’s slogan “CBS Cares” is a lie. work hard.

  97. I don’t understand WHAT these network executives base their decisions on. Didn’t Moonlight receive the Best New Drama on the People’s Choice Awards? Um, that would be a BIG FAT YES - all with being placed on a lousy night and time slot. How can they can keep shows like that terrible “Old Christine” (Julia should have left us remembering her as Elaine on Seinfeld) or the “Ghost Whisperer” (this show is terrible, the writing, the acting - it’s like a B movie with 2 D-cups! Truly awful television). I certainly hope some other network picks up Moonlight - and THAT network will be very glad they did.

Did the execs that decided to cancel ever THINK about the possible impact on the rest of the “Friday night line-up”? I hope that this is just a ruse to get WB to give CBS more money for the show? 105. The bottom line here is politics and money. The networks and the studios like it when things are nice and easy. When they’re arguing over money and show direction, and they’ve replaced the showrunners a couple of times, that spells trouble. Also Warner Bros. is blaming CBS for the failure of the CW Network, which is getting lower ratings than the WB and is losing money. Even to the point of relaunching the WB as a broadband network. Relations between the two entities are probably strained at the monent, and that means no more Moonlight.

Don’t the producers know that vampire/human love stories are currently on the best seller list in the for of the Stephenie Meyer series Twilight and is being made into a movie! Keep Moonlight on and the current fans will stay! No one has ever asked me if I watch it - many of my teacher pals watch too!!!!!

It always won it’s timeslot and it’s on a crappy night of TV viewership. You know a show that CBS could have dumped is Numbers…. it’s getting very boring now and it’s so much like many other shows, Moonlight was original and fun and has such a great beautiful talented cast.

I hope and pray that another network will pick up this show and give it a chance for another life!

Everyone loves the show. It would be a travesty to cancel it. Who in the WORLD is making the decisions at CBS. They need a reality check or to be fired.

    Comment by Mary Jane Bennett — May 19, 2008 @ 7:30 pm

  122. I cannot believe you cancelled this show, it was great!!! CBS makes no sense, you leave the New Adventures of Old Christine on, but get rid of a great show?!?!?!?!

I think you decision making leaves much to be desired!

  123. I love Moonlight and I am over 60 so the show appeals to a variety of age levels. I am sick of reality t.v. I saw all the episodes this season and think you should give it another chance. What with that writer’s strike and all…Moonlight deserves another run.

    Comment by Carol Knudson — May 21, 2008 @ 10:48 am

  124. Cancelling Moonlight would be a big mistake for CBS. For one thing, that is the only show I actually watch on that channel and if they cancel it, I won’t be watching another one they will only cancel again! I love the cast on Moonlight and it appeals to many age groups! My 61 year old mother, 10 year old daughter and me, 31, gather around the tv to watch it every week! Leave something good on tv and cancel some of those STUPID “reality” shows. Give it up already, no one cares about those! I am hoping that CBS reconsiders or that some other smart network will pick up this very fun and exciting program that I have been enjoying!

  125. I’m watching Moonlight in the UK and it has fast become one of my favourite shows.

I hope it does get picked up again and doesn’t go the way of other great shows just because the network doesn’t give it a chance.

    Comment by Mirriam — May 21, 2008 @ 5:33 pm

  126. I’m heartbroken. What is CBS doing? This was the only show that I really couldn’t wait to see. What are they going to put on now - CSI-Epps, Alabama (population 1,100) or Big Brother 7 nights a week instead of 5. If they do not bring Moonlight back, I will (1) write all of the companies that sponsored Moonlight and thank them for sponsoring such a great show. However then I must inform them that I and millions of others will no longer be watching CBS at any time so we will no longer see their commericals on this network. (2) On Direct TV and on other TV’s with parental controls, you can block channels so they don’t even come up on the guide or your TV (this is what I plan to do). I will not be watching CBS at all; there is no need. When they put on a new show that is a hit, they seem to want to cancel it disappointing fans, so there is no need to watch this network at all. A couple of years ago, they had an original new comedy called “Class”. It was great and it also won the “People’s Choice Award for Best New Comedy”…and you guessed it, it was cancelled and didn’t even finish the season. I was disappointed but nothing like I am with the cancellation of “Moonlight”. Don’t they realize that they lucked out with this show. A fairly newcomer to the States was chosen as one of the Most Sexy Men on TV (we all know who this is). Any other network would be foaming at the mouth to have him on their network. And the millions of avid “Moonlight” fans love the show not just because of Alex O’Loughlin (although his is enough to make everybody tune in). We also fell in love with Sophia (she and Mick have great chemistry on the screen); and then there is Jason which we also love (Personally, I also like Logan and the morge guy - I will not even attempt to spell his name). It’s not only the actors and the great way that they have created their characters, the crews also have done a great job. The photography, sound effects, special effects, lighting, music, set arrangments, stunt work, etc. (I can’t list them all) are unique and adds so much to every episode. The writing and storylines (acting with narration added in) were fantastic. It has something for everyone…drama, romance, serious subjects, fight screens where the “good guys” prevail, and my favorite - the humor. It was a unique, fresh, excellently done show (in all areas) and extremely entertaining. It seems that the shows awarded the “People’s Choice Award” for best new show is the kiss of death on CBS. It shows that CBS doesn’t seem interested in what the “People” want. And as for the shows that are scheduled for Friday night (which networks think of as a slow night), more and more people will begin to watch TV on Friday night due to the price of gas and the price of everything else going up, more people are staying home because they don’t have the extra money that they once did to go out every weekend.
Usually I just TIVO CBS’s new shows and do not watch them until I see if they are going to cancel them, so when they do cancel the shows, I can just erase them and don’t even begin watching them; But Moonlight caught my attention when it was on and I thought that surely they would not cancel this
great show so I watched the whole season. I was hooked and fell in love with it immediately only to be heartbroken at the end of the season. I have never written a network, sponsors, posted comments, etc. to save a show but this is different. It became a part of my life which I truly enjoyed - it’s worth fighting for. Surely if CBS can’t see the errors of their way on this show, I hope Cable will pick it up and it can show more than we see on the regular network.
CBS, please hear the cries of the millions that want this show renewed - if not, you will lose millions of people that watch your network (we will boycott all shows and not watch your network at all) and we will let the sponsors know that we no longer watch CBS due to the cancellation of Moonlight, so their advertisments will not be seen by the millions that the network has lost due to their poor decision to Cancel our show. 130. This is Crazy.. I have posted in some other sites saying the same thing. I stopped watching CBS after they started all the CSI spin offs(it was too much for me)Fianlly they get a show on (MOONLIGHT) that wins the People’s choice award.. The writer strike happens they changed the time slot and then after coming back and only 4 more eps they decide to cancel???? What R they Crazy?? This is the best show on Friday nights by far. I tried to watch Ghost whisperer and it’s okay but the only reason I even turn Cbs on is to watch Moonlight.. So if it is cancelled CBS you just lost another viewer b/c I will not watch CBS again..Cbs is just dissappointing their viewers once again..

  131. Please don’t cancel this show. It is the BEST! I am completely hooked. I just found out and called my husband. We look forward to watching Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight. Now what will we do on Friday night. I guarantee it won’t be watch anything on CBS.

    WE LOVE MOONLIGHT!!!!!

    BRING IT BACK!!!!!

WE WANT MORE EPISODES OF MOONLIGHT!

IT’S THE ONLY SHOW I WATCH ON NETWORK TV. I WATCHED EVERY EPISODE. WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU CBS PEOPLE?

  134. If Moonlight doesn’t come back this fall CBS will lose
me as a viewer. I looked forward to watching this show
every week. I don’t understand how you cancel a show that won an award. What happen this week CBS was suppose to have reruns. They never stick to their own
schedule. I missed some of early shows. If CBS does not bring it back I finish with this network.

  135. This is the only show i watch with CBS, I’m not sure what is wrong with these big networks that always cancel the wrong shows. The networks need to invest more on the rating issue now that many people have DVR. This sucks if they cancel this show.

  138. Moonlight is one of the best shows ever and it is soooo NOT a rip off of Angel or Forver Knight. I used to watch them and Buffy from time to time but they are all just knock off’s of one another heck they even share some of the same charecters. Moonlight is as original as it comes, very believable (no green monsters runnin around here), full of suspence, drama, romance, action….it’s the total package and then some it will be such a shame to lose such a great show. Pleeeease keep it goin!!!!

  139. WB and CBS,

PLEASE KEEP MOONLIGHT GOING! I’VE JUST STARTED TO WATCH IT AND I LOVE IT ALREADY. HOW COULD YOU BE UNFAIR TO YOUR VIEWERS BY LETTING THE STORY HANGING JUST LIKE THAT, AND THE FANS AT LOSS. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE. I HOPE YOU WILL GIVE MOONLIGHT A SECOND SEASON AND MORE!

    Comment by lyn — May 26, 2008 @ 2:57 am

  140. Moonlight has the sex/romance interest of Grey’s Anatomy (oops, that’s not on CBS), the intriguing clues connecting different episodes of Lost (not on CBS either), and the single episode fun of any good detective story. Why would CBS cancel something like that? Do they just want to give away viewers to other networks? Do they like shooting themselves in the foot?

  141. CBS LEAVES TERRIBLE DAYTIME SOAPS LIKE GIUDING LIGHT ON AND TERRIBLE NIGHT SHOWS LIKE NUMBERS ON AND LEAVES THE HOT STEAMY SHOWS LIKE MOONLIGHT IN THE DUST!I HAVE WRITTEN CBS TWO TIMES CALLED THE CBS NUMBER (323-651-0255) AND ASKED THEM TO BRING BACK MOONLIGHT.I ALSO EMAILED LIKE 6 TIMES TO COMPLAIN.ALL WE CAN DO IS KEEP ON COMPLAINING TO THEM.THEY BROUGHT JERHICO BACK FOR A SECOND SEASON DUE TO COMPLAINTS SO THEY SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR MOONLIGHT ACCEPT PUT IT ON A DIFFERENT NIGHT SO EVERYONE CAN WATCH LIKE US DIE HARD FANS DO.

  144. I have watched all the episodes of moonlight and have just watched the final episode. I cannot believe it’s not coming back for another season. I have totally fallen for Mick and Beth, their chemistry is so real and believable.(plus it does help that Mick is soooo gorgeous)I’m totally gutted that we won’t be seeing them together again, what is the network thinking of, axing this fantastic show? They are obviously not in touch with what the general public want to watch on TV.

  146. The only reason I watch the cbs network at all is because I love Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight!!! Without those two shows, my weekend is shot!!! I look forward to Friday nights only for those two shows, and if you decide to take away moonlight, you deserve to have your ratings plummet, and hopefully, you will lose your whole audience and fall apart!!!! Why is it that these stupid networks think that they know everything, and as soon as they have a winning show on their hands they yank it, but keep the stupidest, most retarded shows and think they can shove them down our throats time and time again…. You really need to learn to listen to your audience, and start keeping shows that keep your audience interested!!!!!

    Comment by Miikka — June 6, 2008 @ 2:29 am

  147. I am so angry that they are doing this!!!! Moonlight is one of the best shows on CBS. If they are stupid enough to cancel, whoever picks it up well be the winners when it wins all the awards!!!!!!!! If it`s on long enough, trust me, it well be winning awards!

    Comment by Toula — June 7, 2008 @ 4:25 pm

  148. I sure hope CBS is listening to all our complaints!I will not watch CBS.Not even record anything for later since they know that you are doing that too.Goodbye CBS(Care About Shit).

  149. I am heartbroken that “Moonlight” has been canceled. I love the show - I love the story of a vampire who desperately wishes that he was not a vampire (good vs. evil), I love the acting - Alex O’laughlin is absolutely perfect for the role of Mick, and the storylines and romance always keep me coming back for more!! CBS has thoroughly disappointed me by canceling “Moonlight”, and if CBS does not value their viewers opinion any more than this, they have lost this viewer forever!!! Please listen to your viewers and BRING BACK “MOONLIGHT”!!!!

  153. I find it amazing that CBS is cancelling Moonlight. I have absolutely no television reception where i live (no- no cable, no dish, no local reception- nothing!, and have not had for the past 21 years), but managed to get hooked on Moonlight while caring for my mom last year. I have gone out of my way to be somewhere, be it a friend’s house, a hotel, a bar, whatever, so that I could watch the show. I have even asked friends to record it for me so I could watch it. It is one of the few shows I have seen that I truly enjoy. I found its premise different, and the shows themselves very entertaining.
So now, here I am, all ready for a second season, only to find that CBS has decided not to renew it. What are they using for brains there? No, I take that back: Are there any brains there at all, and, if so, are they using them?
As far as playing to the cherished age demographic- I am just a few years outside the desired range, but I will say this: As much as I intensely dislike commercials (most of them I find offensive, either because they assume that I am stupid, or because they discuss subjects that I think are best left between doctor and patient, or behind closed doors), I actually stayed in front of the screen, so as not to miss a moment of Moonlight.
Why is it that, when a show comes along that actually requires some thought, and doesn’t pander to the lowest common denominator, it winds up being cancelled? Do the networks think that we are all idiots, and can’t think? That we must have everything hand fed to us? I know that they love the stupid reality shows, since they don’t cost too much, can be whipped out rapidly, with little or no thought whatsoever, but maybe they ought to think about this: the audience that they are aiming for, viewers that have money, and spend it, also like to be treated as adults, with minds, minds that are capable of being used. Entertainment does not have to be brainless, unlike those that have cancelled Moonlight.
