UPDATE: 'Iron Man' Estimates Upped

iron-man-2.jpg

Distributor Paramount has now revised upwards its opening estimates for Marvel's Iron Man when it opens May 2nd: from $45M-$55M tops, to now $60M-$70M which sounds about right. (See my previous, TRACKING: That's 'Iron Man' Crazy Talk). I can't wait to see the attempts to lower expectations for Indy4's opening.

  1. That does sound pretty doable.

Great trailer, no competition. I think people are desperate for a big “summer” blockbuster movie at this point, I can’t think of what the last big fun movie was.

If Daredevil can do 45, this should do 50 easily. I’m guessing somewhere in the 60’s and over 200M total.

  2. If Iron Man and Tropic Thunder meet expectations, it looks like it’s going to be the “Summer of Downey,” which I think is a good thing.

He can be a role model to the young actors polluting Hollywood these days as someone who got clean and rebuilt his career by a combination of great talent, and sheer dogged hard work.

  3. And I’m sure Iron Man will get that amount of money.

  4. Hey Nikki. What’s the expected lifetime domestic box office gross for Iron Man? I’ve read elsewhere that it’s hovering somewhere between $200-300 million, but could go even higher.

  5. 78 million opening, 245 lifetime is the wager I’m putting on my box office pool. Indy will have a lower opening but a bit more legs, I’d say 65 open/250 lifetime. And Tropic Thunder… as amazing as it looks, I don’t know how much an R-rated comedy aimed solely at guys can do without the Apatow mush for girls.
