Striking writer Sarah Watson emails me about the "highlight" of her day spent picketing at Sony Pictures: "A bunch of us were doing our thang at the Culver Gate when a city bus pulled up to the curb. The doors opened and, while the confused passengers looked on, the driver leaned out to talk to us. She told us she had a really great idea for a TV show and wondered if she could 'pitch it' to us. 'Pitch it'. Her words. God, I love this town."
SNL writers already got new jobs driving buses? Wow. Who knew they could drive!

Ha! Those wacky bus drivers…how quaint that they would dare to dream of one day becoming a Hollywood writer! If only they could wake up and smell the roses and appreciate what an amazing, easy job they have! Driving a bus in LA traffic, day in and day out is a luxury compared to the mind-numbing, banal drudgery of writing crappy sitcoms and spec scripts, of being abused by greedy movie executives who know nothing about art! What do they know of the pain and agony of getting paid a mere six figures for an 120 page script? Maybe writers should just become bus drivers instead…or Wal-Mart employees…or coal miners…you know: simple, fun, insignificant jobs that could never possibly warrant a valid reason to strike! Then those idiotic bus drivers would have the chance to see how bad it is to get paid to write.

Okay here goes…It’s called “Busman’s Holiday”. It’s about a rich socialite who receives a court order to drive a short bus full of mentally disabled children. Half hour, single camera– though it could be multi. Think Taxi Driver meets The Other Sister.

Last time this kind of thing happened, reality TV was born. It, too, was invented by a bus driver.
