Oh, Ari, Just Shut Up Already...

ariemanuelphoto.jpgSo Endeavor's Ari Emanuel has finally written a HuffPo blog today that gently slaps the studio and network CEOs he's been siding with since the writers strike started. (Memo to Peter Chernin, Les Moonves, Barry Meyer, Bob Iger, et al.) I understand it's because he's starting to feel heat from his tenpercentery's scribes who are annoyed at his one-sided pro-Hollywood mogul commentaries before today here and here. Talk about the kiss of death: a major studio mogul who didn't see Ari's latest just told me this AM: "I agree with everything Ari Emanuel is saying. I never thought I would live to say those words, but it's true." Meanwhile, Ari's ignoble lust for attention is just making his rival agents' quiet behind-the-scenes attempt to get both sides in the strike back to the bargaining table look really, really good. By the way, I've heard nothing new regarding that...

  1. I just read the Ari’s latest blog entry from HuffPo and I have to say, it made sense to me– that it’s all about posturing now when it should be about the deal. I don’t see why you’re getting all bent out of shape about it. The dude’s an agent– it’s his job to be diplomatic. I’d rather have a diplomat working to bring about a deal than the chest-thumpers serving as leadership on both sides of the table right now.

    PS - I HATE “Entourage.”

  2. Yeah, that guy should really think of something to say before he tries to blog. Those entries are about 97% substance-free. and with this latest missive - he’s managed to flip-flop on the 3% of an opinion he had to begin with. shut up, indeed…

  3. So this is what you mean by trying to stay in the middle of the strike? LIAR!

  4. Dear Ari,

Is there a third side of your mouth that you can speak out of?

  5. I don’t give a shit what the reason is, however cynical, that Mr Emanuel has suddenly found out that he represents writers as well as actors and directors - and that we might just not be entirely talking out of our asses. The important thing is that he’s finally fighting our corner (for now, anyway). The more the merrier, quite frankly. History is littered with conflicts ending for the most self-serving and cynical of reasons. it doesn’t matter as long as the end result is a good one.

  7. I guess the wind just changed directions. Ari, would you mind if I stuck you up on the roof of my farm barn?

  8. I’m hoping that some collateral damage of this strike will be that blowhards like Ari will lose their power or at least have it diminished significantly. It’s two-faced liars like him that give Hollywood a bad reputation… not the noble writers who work hard and fight for a just cause, and future generations of writers.

And the guy was personally responsible for killing one of my scripts last year (something he seems to enjoy doing). So, I’m happy to see him get some heat… I’d be happier to see him leave the industry altogether and go into politics with his brother. That’s where he belongs…

  9. You guys think Ari’s the one writing his posts? C’mon! He’s telling some trainee to come up with dribble! If agents are really trying to get the WGA and AMPTP back to the table, then I hope he isn’t one of them, and I hope even more that the agency heads aren’t going about the diplomacy the way Ari is blogging. That’s probably why Nikki has heard NOTHING after her initial “Glimmer Of Hope” post.

As for the studios, the department heads have been preparing for this strike since February, holding weekly meetings, so was it really preparation, or ANTICIPATION.

The producers took out an ad separating themselves from the AMPTP last week. Why? Because they have something to hide - which is - they’re using scabs to “better” the remaining scripts that were stockpiled. What’s so sad is - the writers totally know this, and are allowing for this to happen because they care more about their shows than the strike. That’s why you see the Cuse go back to LOST - to check on his SCRIPTS! “Producing duties?” Come on people - we know how this town works. This is why the studios/networks aren’t doing anything - because there is still work going on! There’s no work stoppage.

Let’s stop playing these stupid games so that we can get back to work.

  10. Yeah. They’ve been holding weekly meetings since feb, in anticipation of JUNE. The reality of November was indeed as surprise.

I want it over with too, but it’s not going away fast. It’s just not.

Gee, sick of striking, you’re quite the conspiracy theorist. Do you know Carlton? I do. And I know what’s up and it doesn’t match your tale.

  11. Most importantly, what the fuck is a “Ventura Boulevard writer?” I’d love an insight from anyone out there.
