A new channel will add more competition which is a good thing. It’d be even better if they did pick up Jericho though. =)

A wise woman I once knew always told her kids: Be nice to people when you’re on your way up, so they won’t be nasty to you when you’re on your way down. Dear me, poor old Les Moonves; guess his momma had no words of wisdom for him. I certainly hope he’ll fade into some sort of ignominious and QUIET retirement soon, so he can stop pulling real journalists off the airwaves and replacing them with talking, highlighted heads who were out of their depth at breakfast, when arguably their viewers are half asleep anyway and wouldn’t know the difference. Two for one; the Fates have, at last, been busy!

This royally screws Showtime. They were stuck with sucky Paramont films for a while. Now they won’t even have that. I don’t know who owns Starz but CBS is gonna have to merge or buy them to get some movie deals back or totally rebrand Showtime to all hourly and half hour programming.

I’m no fan of Moonves either, but Showtime is hot right now. Their original content blows HBO away (now that The Wire has finished). Going to be interesting….

clueLES is such a loser..hahaha…take that for what hapened to jericho…life has twisted ways of punishing…it would be a good deal for the new channel to pick up jericho…besides the several million fans in the US the show also has a few millions all over the world..i for one am from romania….

This will drive Showtime into Starz’s arms (or vice-versa). With no movies on Showtime, and less-than-compelling originals on Starz, they’re an obvious fit. Plus, the two services are already sold together for one price by several distributors (see AT&T and Verizon, among others). The only question is who winds up running it — Moonves or Malone.

This may turn out to be a good thing. If they can deliver on what they envision this venture to be. I could also see them picking up the CW network at a bargin price and reband it to show programing from the new network as well as some of the better shows they have (Supernatural, Smallville, etc.) now.

Would clueLES even recognize a “hot new scripted original series” if it smacked him? Would only purchase the channel if they did pick up Season 3 of Jericho. How unique if they could manage to come up with other quality series too.

This is the greatest idea ever. Les Moonves doesn’t care about his viewers at all. Maybe this new channel will care. I applaud this and I hope they will bring us the very anticipated new season of Jericho that many are hoping for.

I’m no fan of Moonves, but he’ll have the last laugh in this power play. DVDs and on-demand have greatly diluted the market value of first-run movies on cable. Furthermore, the studios are in for a rude awakening when they pitch this channel to cable and satellite operators unless they’re willing to cut them in on a SUBSTANTIAL equity stake. And how long will this new channel stagger along before the various studio heads in this joint venture start knifing EACH OTHER in the back?
