Lindsay Lohan Now Hollywood Pariah...

You know that I don't discuss celebrities unless there's a strong Industry news component. And, except for one posting, this has been a Lindsay Lohan-free zone. Well, sources just told me that Lohan has been un-attached from the independent feature The Manson Girls, written and to be directed by Matthew Bright, and produced by Elie Samaha, Donald Kushner, and Brad Wyman through Junction Films. Production was slated to commence in early July for five weeks in Los Angeles, and everybody was pleased that Lohan was attached back in March. (Some may, or may not, view this true life crime film for her as hitting bottom. Lindsay was to play the part of Nancy Pitman, a pampered surfer girl who became enthralled with Charlie Manson.) But people associated with the movie told agents that Lohan quickly became more of a deficit than an asset when they discovered that they couldn’t find any name actresses who wanted to co-star with her. (And even some name actors...) So now Lindsay is off the pic -- but not for the excuses being circulated. Let this be a lesson... Behaving badly may get you on the covers of celebrity-obsessed mags and tabloids. But Hollywood won't tolerate your shit and shouldn't.

Proof Lindsay Lohan's Act Has Worn Thin

  1. My god, if you get kicked off of an Elie Samaha-produced movie, your career really *is* over.

  2. Good, these smug actors need a comeuppance.

And, studios need to realize once and for all that a tabloid “star” does not equate to film/tv star, and stop giving movies to the likes of Hilton, et al.

Let’s return to the days of true talent and earned fame, shall we?

  3. “Can’t Take It Anymore”, you pretty much nailed it. Heard Elie was doing a Battlefield Earth sequel with Lohan, Lou Diamond Phillips and Dolph Lundgren. Wonder if that’s still going.

  4. The sad thing about her, B., is that at one time I think she was truly talented. She just lost herself along the way.

  5. Maybe there’s a glimmer of hope after all! Hollywood needs actors…real talent, people dedicated to the craft and art, not these types of celebs. Good move.

  6. Kyle, you heard wrong. The battlefield Earth sequel isn’t with Dolph anymore. It’s Lohan, Gary Coleman and Caveman #3 from the Geico commercials. Set to go shoot in Moscow mid-July. Check you sources.

  7. “But Hollywood won’t tolerate your shit and shouldn’t.”

Actually, Hollywood WILL tolerate someone’s shit so long as their movies make money. Let’s not pretend this industry cares about things like morality or dignity. If other actors thought being associated with Lohan meant a successful movie, they’d tolerate her crap. The same goes for directors, producers, writers, and especially studios.

  8. Yeah…

As much as Lindsay Lohan is worthy of hate, I can’t see why she would be upset at being kicked off (if this IS the case) a film being made by a bunch of B producers and hacks. It’s just too bad for her that she wasn’t kicked off of I Know Who Killed Me…

  9. “penny” you’re a generous person

however, i’ve always been puzzled by her acclaim, and by any sadness for her. like many other “celebs,” she’s a self-absorbed brat who had more privilege and wealth than deserved. these people are actors, not gods. some aren’t even actors. her personal problems were no worse than countless other teens who truly do deserve sadness, and actually her life was far far better than most people. she’s also a despicable role model for girls and had the opportunity to do real work. instead, she elected to do nudity and salacious roles where most actresses don’t have the choice.

  10. slusho is right about the absence of integrity, except no actor guarantees a successful movie

agents and actors are freaking and playing accelerated musical chairs because this truth is finally sinking in

if a movie is well written and directed, people will see it regardless of the actors.

studios should shift dollars away from the overpaid A-list actors and more toward the writer and director

    Comment by anons — May 8, 2008 @ 5:54 pm

  11. Remember, a few years back, a famous actor, after a heavy bender, ended up in the bed of a three year old, in the wrong house? And, as of last weekend, didn’t that same actor have one of the biggest opening weekends in the history of cinema?

Robert Downey, Jr. got sober and kept his shit together and look how far he’s come since. This town eats its weak and young. If this woman can do the same, cut her some fuckin’ slack. Stop playin’ up the petty bullshit opportunist stereotype that so many ‘out there’ think everyone ‘in here’ is because of TMZ!

    Comment by Wilby — May 8, 2008 @ 6:18 pm

  12. Lohan is a classic example of someone who chooses to be a “star” instead of an actor. In this age of tabloid saturation getting press, especially bad press, is considered the path of least resistance to fame and fortune.

But it’s a path that heads straight to Chatsworth doing movies with the words “Wet,” “Hot,” and/or “Spanking” in the title. And when you act as obnoxiously unprofessional as Lohan and the others of her ilk, you probably won’t even get that kind of work.

Even at his most addicted and self destructive I never heard anyone complain about Robert Downey jr’s professionalism, only that he tried to give his best in difficult times. Now he’s gone from Iron Man to golden boy, and people are happy for him.

People are annoyed at Lohan. She had stardom practically handed to her on a plate, and she pissed it away for the giddy thrill of drugs, booze, and being a tabloid darling. If she truly wants a movie/tv career, she needs to seriously get clean, for real, and act like a professional. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s the only way.

  13. I think she’s a huge talent and if she’s smart, she will see this as the blessing that it is. Hollywood is killing her slowly with drugs, sex and gratuitous breast flashing. I think she should make the move into Christian movies, films about the Holy Spirit, that send positive messages and are uplifting. That market’s huge and I can totally see her as the new face of the “worship” genre. Time somebody hands her a script with values and not the same old crap. God Bless her. And her breasts.

    Comment by Rondo Sawbuck — May 8, 2008 @ 6:26 pm

  14. Wow. I totally don’t get the Lidsey hate. Why? Because she did drugs? Look at Robin Williams and ask who has done more. Or Kieth Richards. Nudity? How about Anne Hathaway or Natalie Portman or just about every top supermodel. She went clubbing? She’s in her 20’s! Who doesn’t go out when they’re in their 20’s?

There is something sick in our society that so many people seem to take so much pleasure in attacking the actions of young girls. If one of the guys from GOSSIP GIRL wanted to pose naked it’d be no problem. If one of the girls did she would be called out as a slut (or worse). A teen boy wants to pose without a shirt or show his butt and no one says a word, a teen girl takes a pic showing her bare back and it’s a scandal. Ridiculous.

If people in HW don’t want to work with LL that’s their call. She’s never done anything to me. She’s never done anything (as far as I know) you wouldn’t expect of thousands of other girls (and plenty of guys) in their late teens-early twenties.

After a while it feels less like morality and more like a bunch of mean two-faced ignoratti who will praise Anne Hathaway, then attack another actress for nudity, who love the character House who gloats about his drug use but crack on an actor who might actually want to quit using drugs.

No wonder girls are so screwed up. They don’t have to wait for men to talk smack to them — there are plenty of women waiting for the chance to tear them down already.

And Lindsey *is* talented. MEAN GIRLS was awesome and she was great in it.

Then come back a few years later and maybe, just maybe, we’ll give you a chance again.

Of course, you know she won’t. Too bad, so sad.

  25. The comparison to RDJ is ridiculous. RDJ had an amazing career before he was messed up and still had that career during the time he was messed up. He cranked out amazing work before becoming a royal mess and was well-respected. He worked his way slowly back to the top by taking roles in quirky films and by laying low. All Lohan has to show for herself are a few Disney movies, Mean Girls and her recent flops. She doesn’t have a modicum of respect that RDJ had in the industry.

RDJ seemed willing to change, seemed humble and was willing to take pay cuts in order for people to hire him. He had compassion from people in the industry who believed in him and he had connections. Lohan has burned basically all of her bridges.

RDJ seems to have work ethic, talent, interest in acting as opposed to the fame that comes with it. He is an actor, first and foremost. Lohan doesn’t seem interested in acting at all apart from the award ceremonies, free shit and fame. She’s interested in the part that gets her to bypass the lines at clubs and eateries.

Someone who doesn’t show up to work on-time, shows up blitzed/drunk/hung-over, doesn’t show up at all, bitches about the clothing the costume designer’s got her in, and in general is just a spoiled brat with no work ethic does not make a good impression on anyone. There’s only so much shit people in Hollywood will take. If you’re in a movie with bigger actors and all people are asking them in interviews is if they had issues onset with you because of your problems, then of course no one’s going to want to work with you. If you’re costing the production money because you can’t get your shit together, of course the director/studio/producer aren’t going to want you.

She’s been given all the chances in the world and at this point, she has the slimmest chance in hell to make a comeback. The industry isn’t kind to females and she’s past her prime when it comes to young female talent. And let me just say, there are hundreds of girls with better acting chops, and better behaviour who are trying to get into Hollywood.

There are girls who want the kind of career she was promised so badly that they’d gladly push her off a rocky cliff then take her spot.

  27. Tim - i agree with you. Really she should take a career break…but she probably won’t; she loves the limelight too much. As for her career…she has the potential to bounce back…all she needs is focus and discipline.

If the likes of RDJ, Drew Barrymore, Charlie Sheen etc can bounce back from booze and drugs…so can Lohan.

  28. The idiots who are drawing comparisons between a hack like Lohan and Robert Downey Jr. need to examine the actual talent involved and bodies of work (both of which are negligible in Lohan’s case) before opening their pie holes.

  30. I think all her “great talent” is a myth that just gets repeated over and over again with no real grounding in reality. She was good in Mean Girls and what else….? Herbie the Love Bug? She had promise and presence, that’s it.

Now she’s way more interested in fame and partying and she clearly has no solid, healthy foundation to fall back on (see her mother and father). I am highly skeptical that she’ll be back one day. Maybe a John Travolta type resurgence in her 40s?

    Comment by T.O. Rialiany — May 9, 2008 @ 9:34 am

  31. I don’t think that anyone cares that she has a drug problem drugs.. care that her last couple of movies she has been in have flops. They don’t want to work with her because no one cares about her anymore and that = no one going to see the movie.

She has no credibility- the only two semi-good movies she STARRED in were the Parent Trap and Mean Girls…so please don’t compare her to Robert Downey Jr.

    Comment by Teresa — May 9, 2008 @ 9:49 am

  32. Strangely, no one has touched upon the true problem for Ms. Lohan’s woes: her stupid parents. If you had Michael and Dina Lohan as parents, you’d be totally fucked up too. Dad twice sent to prison before she was twenty, Mom whoring herself and her kids out to anyone who will listen. The pair of them combined having less morals than Sammy Glick.

It’ll be a miracle if the other Lohan kids don’t suffer the same fate, regardless of whether the White Oprah can get them as famous as their big sister or not.

Nonsense. If she was making hit movies nobody would give a shit. Do you have any idea of the “shit” that is put up with in this business? But she was essentially a flash in the pan of limited talent and shelf life, basically Alicia Silverstone with very bad habits (by the way, Alicia had a few too, as she was known on one set as “Alicia Getting-stoned”). Next she’ll “clean up”, do a TV series that will fail, and wither away into obscurity. Just the way it goes. Hope she’s saved a few bucks.

Swarming to judgement on this young person doesn’t seem right. South Park did an episode on a town sacrificing young girls, using Brittany as a martyr - painfully true.

  35. Good, now someone in Hollywood is exhibiting a brain. Maybe no one wants to be on the same piece of celluloid with Lohan because she’s a no-talent loser who used up her soupçon of talent when she was a tween. She has even less class than talent, and now Hollywood is going to turn her out onto the professional equivalent of Molokai, as well they should Plenty of talented women out there, why not give them a chance to shine. The most esteemed of our actresses have publicly excoriated Lohan, and she still doesn’t get it. Damaged goods, never to be resurrected. Buh-bye! In my line of work, I meet people of all ages and socio-economic ranges. Not one person has anything good to say about Lohan — tweens hate her, young adults hate her, older adults hate her. The only positive comment, recently, in a group of 18-22-year-olds in a college entertainment studies course was “Well, she was kind of good in that old movie Parent Trap.” They can’t even recall what her films were, mostly. Spent time on someone else. Maybe she can get herself some cheesy European commercial somewhere and disappear. She can’t sing, either.

  37. Mean Girls was good thanks to Tina Fey who wrote an amazing script, not Lohan’s great comedic timing or acting skills. The real comedy was provided by McAdams and the rest of the ensemble anyway. I seriously think that any other comparably-qualified actress could’ve pulled of Lindsey’s role in the film just as well, only without that annoying gravelly voice. Stop giving her more credit than she deserves.
I might’ve enjoyed some of her movies, and obviously the tween generation did, but that doesn’t make her some great actress. I really don’t understand where all this “Lohan is so great” is coming from. Where’s the work to show for it?
It’s not as if she had Natalie Portman’s talent and suddenly turned druggie. Another Long Island girl, might I mention, with actual talent and the acting work to show for it, and actual brains, which have fortunately led her far in the opposite direction of Ms. Lohan.

The fact remains; doing coke is not normal, getting dui’s is not normal, chasing someone in a stolen suv down the PCH is not normal.

And to compare her to Robert Downey Jr is ridiculous; Robert is talented, Lindsay is not near his level of talent, not even close. Her part in Mean Girls wasn’t exactly a difficult film role, a monkey could have pulled off the same performance.

I don’t understand why people keep saying she’s talented. Mean Girls was good because of Tina Fey, not Lindsay Lohan and i’m sorry but saying “she was good in Parent Trap” isn’t particularly convincing.

I don’t think the problem is that she has a drug problem - who in the business doesn’t? The problem is that her acting sucks and her movies make no money. Toss in the fact that she’s a nasty piece of work who no one has anything nice to say and is it really that surprising that people don’t want to work with her?

  43. It’s a shame that Lindsay doesn’t see what she’s doing to her career. With all of the beautiful young actresses with talent and willing to work hard, her opportunities are dying off fast. But more than the obvious, Lindsay is the oldest, dried out-looking 21 year old I’ve seen outside of a crack house. Her lifestyle is showing on her face, and that is a total career killer. I recently caught a candid photo of her, and I couldn’t believe it was her. She looked like a 35 year old alcoholic! Tsk. I’ve also read that she’s run through most of the money she’s made, so she really doesn’t have much to fall back on. Double tsk. Oh, well. She apparently doesn’t want to listen to advice from anyone and it shows. As my grandmother used to tell us, “Hard heads make soft butts.” Yup.

I can’t believe there’s people actually supporting this girl, people need to realize that Lohan is not a victim of media scrutiny, she LOVES the attention, she lives for it, she’s not different than Paris Hilton, all those paparazzi photos you see are -most of them- staged and Lohan herself even calls some of the photographers, the girl is also one of the most obnoxious, stuck up and delusional-about-her-own-place-in-Hollywood actresses I’ve ever seen, just read an interview with her, she’s so arrogant it’s sickening, I know it’s bad to enjoy someone else’s misfortunes but Im glad to know her career is in the dumpster, she deserves it for being such a crap person, and Im not talking about her drug use, no, that I don’t care for, she’s a crap person for the way she treats people, she’s a crap person for thinking she’s God or princess Diana, she’s a crap person for being such a hipocrite, she’s crap because she’s extremely shallow and self-centered, she doesn’t care about anything but herself, and by the way to all those people justifying her actions with the “leave her alone she’s young, shes doing what every other young person does” excuse, Im 20 and I’ve never been in rehab, I party and use drugs with frecuence yet Im doing good in school and at work, I act like every other 20 year old in the world, sure I like to have fun but I also know what’s important and Im commited to it, Lohan doesn’t, she thinks that because she is who she is she can get away with anything. well, she is wrong.

  46. Mean Girls was good because Tina Fey is a brilliant writer, but it benefited from Lohan’s talent. Lohan was also very good in A Prairie Home Companion. She has a great deal of talent. She just needs to shake the partying and drug abuse enough to show up and work. Maybe she’s not a great talent, but she’s good. I’d like to see her get her act together so she can produce some more good work.

But she had better hurry. The partying and drug abuse has burned away a lot of her beauty. She needs to straighten up before age makes the decline in her looks permanent, because no one will care about her talent if she shrivels into a prune before she straightens up. Talent can keep her working as she ages, but to get her talent re-recognized she needs both the talent and her once-beautiful looks.

  47. As a (now up there) previously young woman who had a lot of similar problems, I am pretty certain that it has been the lack of a firm foundation that has her floundering around and looking for herself in all of the wrong things. There is probably a just below the surface sense of getting back and mom and dad (who don’t really give a real shit about her, except for what she can give or do for them and LL knows it) involved as well. Unfortunately, once you start out like that it’s a really long road back to anything resembling integrity. Most likely, she will never be what she could have been. But that is her journey.

Even in the NFL, two idiots Adam “Pacman” Jones and Chris Henry, who, combined have managed to be arrested 11, thats right, 11 times since becoming professioanls. Henry has been cut by the Bengals and Jones’ future is uncertain. These people forget that there are new actors/actresses at auditions every day. Others forget that there is a NFL draft every April, and that they are replacable.

Lohan is a addict and thief and her three recent movies in which she starred all bombed. She has major on-screen and off-screen issues. She is box office poison.

Notice how Miley Cyrus has disappeared after the Vanity Fair problem. Lohan would still be out in public partying.
