Luckily Dave Didn't Make Fun Of My Name

An East Coast journalist just told me I was mentioned on Letterman tonight... Anyone else catch it? (LA doesn't get The Late Show for another 2 1/2 hours...)

UPDATE: Turns out the Late Show writers gave me a shout-out. During a segment about strike fun facts, Dave generously let his scribes sneak in their inside joke: "During the height of his popularity, Elvis Presley received 10,000 pieces of mail a day, or half as many as Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily."

(The audience went, 'huh?' " Here's the YouTube of it.)

Very cool. Much thanks.

  1. No worries — your popularity was the punchline, not your name. (Loved feeling in-the-know!)

  3. “At the height of his fame, Elvis Presley received 10,000 letters per day - or, half the amount received by Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily.”

  4. Yeah..He made a joke that Elvis got 10,000 emails a day and that Nikki Finke from Deadline Hollywood Daily gets 5,000. My fiance was wondering why I found that funny. You are having an impact. Keep it up.

  5. The only somewhat bad news is no one laughed. But quality of fame is better than quantity of fame, and people who know what’s up knew Dave was throwing you a nice shout-out.

  6. 5 minutes is 5 minutes, no such thing as bad press!

  7. The joke bombed, but wasn’t at your expense.

But the show in general hasn’t been much funnier

  9. “5 minutes is 5 minutes, no such thing as bad press!”

Tell that to Michael Jackson, OJ, others…

  10. Um, Steve @ 9.02 pm, I think you’ll find that if 10,000 letters is half the amount Nikki receives, that would make her haul 20,000, not 5,000. ;)

  12. I am as far away from Hollywood as can be and I know about this website and you.

    I didn’t go “huh?”.

Although I still can’t find a picture of you anywhere online… very elusive.

  13. I thought Dave’s fun facts segment and the response of the audience is very indicative of how the country at large feels about the strike. The Writers provided with joke after joke about the strike and the audience kept groaning. They weren’t really funny or entertaining. It finally climaxed with the Nikki Finke “fact”. At that point, the audience was bored and the topic was way beyond anything they were interested in hearing, so Dave skipped the rest of the pile and ended the segment. Just imagine how many groaners were in there.

There’s Google and, within it, “images” and there you will find Nikki. Print out and post the bikini shot from Hawaii.

  19. Congrats, Nikki, and thanks for the insane amount of work you put into this site!

@ Tom Carten: you sure the user who asked for pics will find his way to Google? ;D

  20. It’s great that Dave is so supportive of the writers and gave you such a great shout-out. To be more poular than the King himself is quite an honor. There is no better source than Deadline Hollywood for honest information regarding the strike. Thanks for all that you do.

  22. Still can’t figure out why Leno gets higher ratings than Letterman. Did you notice any increase in traffic after the mention?

    Comment by Jim — January 6, 2008 @ 10:14 am

  23. Why does Leno get higher ratings? Could it be because the media that reports those ratings are AMPTP shills? I’m just asking.

  24. Just a question…how much (in residuals) did the writers get for us watching that lame bit on You Tube? Oh yeah, nothing!!!

    Fucking hypocrites.
