  5. there’s nothing better than reading ‘coming soon’ regarding an important story on this site. Nikki, you are a major footnote in the story of this strike and will always be part of the story folks tell when reflecting on the 2007 WGA strike, but can you please give us an ETA or something rather than ‘coming soon’? Writers are nervous enough creatures as it is. :)

  6. I am betting that the headline will be the following:

Bryan Lourd to hold AMPTP, Writers hostage until deal is reached.

  8. This is so wonderfully alarmist. How big of a fire? I’m scared.

    Comment by KIKILULU — November 29, 2007 @ 10:24 am

  9. And the definition of “soon” is what exactly? These teases do not exactly manage our expectations time-wise. But I still love you Nikki…

  10. Talks “Breaking News” or “Breaking Talks” News?

    Comment by PJ - Writer — November 29, 2007 @ 10:31 am

  11. GNAAAGRPH!!

These “in another post” things are worse than the pauses before announcing winners in reality TV (Oh Nikki, come to think of it, strangely appropriate).

  12. Great.. now I have to try to interpret that bell icon. Does it mean “ding ding!” like in boxing? Was it a knockout? Or just the end of a round?

Or maybe it’s an alarm going off– a fire alarm! Maybe Nikki’s trying to tell us that talks are off and everyone has left the building. Hmm.

Of course it could be a telephone bell ringing… signifying talks have progressed, higher-ups are being called… the strike is ending soon…

Unless it’s not a bell at all. I mean… it sort of looks like a large-eyed robotic monster. I’m not sure what that would suggest.

Please Nikki- stop doing this to us!!

  13. Stop doing this. Don’t post until you have something.

  17. Yet another teaser…what is the point of these beyond annoying readers?

Is it really so hard to just wait until there’s something to post?

  18. Is it possible to go from “stalemate” to “fair deal” in one blog post?

    Comment by Caitlin — November 29, 2007 @ 12:06 pm

  24. Everyone, brace yourselves. Do you really think this could be good news? Doubtful. Buy some new tennis shoes. We’re gonna be walking for a while.

  27. Every time we have seen one of these alerts it usually is followed by some bad news like things are falling apart or they are far apart, etc. I am fearing the worst again like a breakdown in talks.

    Comment by James — November 29, 2007 @ 12:19 pm

  28. We have great renewed respect for the WGA negotiators if the offensive buffoons in the AMPTP video are typical of what WGA negotiators are dealing with. AMPTP helps WGA with this video - it puts a creepy face on their creepy behavior.

    Comment by showrunner — November 29, 2007 @ 12:27 pm

  29. Showrunner, the vid is satire. Below the Line @12:04, you’re here, you’re refreshing. Methinks you doth protest too much. Everyone else basing their morale on rumors, that’s what they’re designed to do. Keep your game faces on and don’t let the spin, well… spin you. And thank you, Nikki, for excellent reporting.
